Experiencing the Cambridge Scholars' Programme

Our time at Gonville and Caius College, University of Cambridge, for the Cambridge Scholars’ Programme was truly unforgettable. Across 18 days, we were stretched well beyond our usual classroom learning. We built robots out of LEGO and even memorised an entire deck of cards in just five days, uncovering strengths and abilities we didn’t know we had. The courses during the days challenged us to think critically, debate new ideas, problem-solve creatively, and collaborate with new people in unfamiliar environments. It wasn’t about memorising facts, but about learning how to question, explore and grow.

Evenings were just as lively as the days. Dinners without phones sparked plenty of conversation and laughter, while our game nights grew hilariously competitive, with debates about the rules sometimes lasting longer than the games themselves. We played traditional games such as ‘Throw the Wellie Boot’ and ‘The Human Knot,’ all guided by eight fantastic mentors from Oxford and Cambridge.

Soccer matches turned into all-out battles with Rhea and Do Hee shining as star players. The egg challenges left more than a few of us dripping in yolk, and the wellie-throwing competition saw some spectacularly misdirected throws.

There were more countless highlights: punting on the river, where many of us discovered just how little balance we had; trying unusual British foods; exploring centuries-old Colleges; and visiting London’s iconic landmarks such as Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace.

The connections we built with each other and with students from around the world were truly special. From late-night conversations in the dorms to inside jokes and shared challenges, these moments became the heart of our experience. The Cambridge Scholars’ Programme gave us so much more than academic knowledge. It built our resilience, strengthened our confidence, and created memories we will carry with us always.

We loved shining our light in the UK and cannot wait to return and share our experiences and stories with our peers. None of this would have been possible without Mrs Campbell, who supported and encouraged us every step of the way. We are deeply grateful for her guidance and care.
