Perseverance

Dear Families,

In Week 5, our whole school will be focusing on the

character strength Perseverance. This strength is all

about not giving up, even when something is hard.

It is about trying your best, sticking with a task, and

learning from mistakes along the way.

For children, perseverance might look like finishing a

tricky puzzle, practising a new skill over and over,

or keeping calm and trying again after something doesn’t work out the first time.

In the classroom, perseverance can be seen in many ways. It might be a student who keeps trying to solve a challenging maths problem, even after getting it wrong a few times. It could be someone practising their reading fluently or carefully editing their writing to make it stronger. Perseverance also shows when students ask for help, try different strategies, or stay focused even when the task feels tough. At our school, we encourage students to show perseverance by setting goals, staying focused, and believing in their ability to grow. It helps build confidence, independence, and a love of learning — all important skills for success in and out of the classroom.

You can support this focus at home by encouraging effort over perfection, praising persistence, and reminding children that mistakes are part of learning. These everyday moments help children build a strong sense of resilience.

By noticing and celebrating perseverance — both at school and at home — we’re helping our children develop the confidence to face challenges, keep going, and achieve their personal best. Let’s keep cheering them on!

Warm regards,
