Dear Parents and Carers,

As members of a Catholic school community, we are blessed to begin August with two significant celebrations in our faith: the Feast of Saint Mary MacKillop and the upcoming Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Feast of Saint Mary MacKillop

On August 8, we honor Saint Mary MacKillop, Australia’s first saint, who dedicated her life to the service of others through education and care for those in need. Guided by her deep faith, Mary MacKillop together with the Sisters of St Joseph established schools across Australia and New Zealand, providing quality education for children in both cities and remote communities. In fact, the Josephite sisters were the original founders of our school, St Margaret Mary’s. Their vision and dedication continue to shape our school’s Catholic identity today.

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

We warmly invite all parents and carers to join us for a special whole school Mass on Friday, August 15 at 10:30am. This Mass will celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a cornerstone feast in our Catholic tradition. The Assumption reminds us of Mary’s strong faith and her role as a model for all Christians. It is a joyous occasion to come together as a community and honour Mary, who inspires us to say “Yes” to God’s invitation in our lives.

The Feast of the Assumption is a Holy Day of Obligation, meaning that we need to attend Mass on this day.

We look forward to celebrating these beautiful feasts.

With every blessing,

Nancy Kubti
