Family Maths Afternoon

Maths Information Session

Thank you for all your support at our Family Maths Information Session as you all showed we are truly lifelong learners at Essendon North Primary School.

Some of the key takeaways from our Mathematics Association of Victoria Consultant, Renee’s presentation were:

  • Our mathematical journey of change from 2022 - today.
  • The launch - explore - summarise model of teaching.
  • The change in disposition for students and teachers.
  • Developing students to develop core skills for their future beyond just finding an answer.
  • The updated Victorian Curriculum 2.0 in 2025 - change to six strands (Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space, Statistics and Probability).
  • Ways to promote a love of maths by avoiding saying I was never good at maths and focus on the process not the answer.

VIP Maths Afternoon

The school was abuzz with mathematical thinking and reasoning as VIPs moved around the school completing a variety of maths experiences. Students enjoyed sharing some of their maths learning and visiting classrooms around the school to find the punchline to a maths joke. A stand out favourite was: What do you call a hen who counts her own eggs? A mathemachicken!
