Performing Arts

Hi Everyone!

I can’t believe we’ve already had a month of wonderfully creative Dance lessons at ENPS!

Foundation

Foundation students have continued to explore ‘Our Bodies That Move’. Last week they created a ‘Creatures of the Sea and Land’ Dance. Students used their whole body and individual body parts to improvise the movement characteristics of a particular sea or land animal. This week they created a Morning Routine dance to the well-known soundtrack Ghostbusters.

Year One and Two

Year One and Two students have started to create their own ‘Dance Maps’. Students have drawn their own dance pathways to follow in their ARTS Journals, which utilise shapes, levels and poses. Students have learnt these pathways and have been taking turns to  teach them to some of their classmates. For example, in groups of three, one student is the ‘director’ or ‘choreographer’ while the other students are the dancers. Every week, we swap who the ‘director’ is so every student has a turn to teach their dance map to other students.

Year Three and Four

Last  week, the Year Threes and Fours worked on their Hip Hop dance routines. Some groups have already performed and other classes will perform theirs this week. They have been working hard on mastering the Hip Hop style of dancing, by learning movements like the side step, box step and smurf step. They have also combined their own hip hop dance movements with the dance routine that they learnt in class.

Year Five

The Year Fives have been having lots of fun creating their class ‘Flash Mobs’. Over the last few weeks, students have created a series of 8-counts within a small group. We then joined these 8-counts together with other groups and we’re gradually building and connecting everyone’s dance routines so we can eventually create a whole class Flash Mob!

Year Six

During the past two weeks, Year Six students have created their Performing Arts aspect of their science Exhibition. Students have found creative ways to present their specific science topic in theatrical ways. Some groups created and filmed movement poems, others have written and recorded raps or podcasts. Some groups also performed their physical theatre pieces live at Exhibition this week, in between the TEDx Talks!

See you on the dance floor!
