Life Education at ENPS

In Term Four Essendon North Primary School students across all levels will have the opportunity to attend a Life Education Program run by Life Ed Victoria.

What is Life Education?

The Life Education program provides valuable lessons exploring healthy eating, personal safety, physical activity, positive relationships, cybersafety and the impact of alcohol and other drugs. All modules are age and stage appropriate and aligned to the Australian school curriculum.

This program took place in Weeks One, Three and Four, with the Foundation to Year Three students completing a 60 minute lesson and Year Four to Six students completing a 90 minute lesson with Life Education staff and their classroom teacher.

Life Education Modules

The Foundation module: Harold’s Friendship

This module builds social and emotional learning in children - getting to the root of how to build safe and positive relationships, to develop empathy, communicate respectfully, including how to respectfully disagree with someone.

The Year One and Two module: Safety Rules!

This module helps students to problem solve and focuses on recognising safe and unsafe environments, how to care for others and places and people who they can go to for help.

The Year Three module: Growing Good friendships

This module highlights the role that positive relationships plays in their health and wellbeing. Learning outcomes include identifying ways in which people show care and concern, and the role that positive relationships with friendships and support networks play in health and wellbeing.

Year Four module: The Inside Story

In this module students travel around inside the body to visit the body systems. Students learn the benefits of healthy food for health and energy, function of the body systems; digestive, respiratory, circulatory and others and factors that influence physical health, such as nutrition, exercise and medicines.

Year Five to Six module: Take a Breath

“Take a Breath” explores the issues around vaping and smoking, through the lens of real Australian students. “Take a Breath” features children in Years Five and Six who have genuine questions about vaping, alongside real high school students who recorded and edited their responses.

The young people in the module investigate the issue by:

  • Analysing and drawing comparisons between the history of smoking and the growth of vaping in recent years;
  • Identifying that nicotine is an addictive drug that can impact health and wellbeing; and
  • Discussing the social influences surrounding the choice to vape or not to vape.
