Year Three
In Term Four, Year Three students are inquiring into the concept of "Gender and Identity" through structured lessons from the Resilience, Rights, and Respectful Relationships teaching manual.
These lessons provide students with opportunities to examine diverse gender roles and play styles, through a range of learning activities - including role-playing, interactive games, group activities, storytelling, music, arts and crafts, surveying, and interviewing.
Students are encouraged to develop an understanding of gender equality, empathy, and respect. This inquiry process aims to reduce discrimination and bullying by challenging stereotypes and allowing students to explore a wide variety of interests and potential career paths.
By fostering self-awareness through the exploration of Gender and Identity, we aim to prepare students to live with a strong sense of belonging, connection, purpose, resilience, and agency.
Understanding and respecting their own identities, as well as those of others, equips students to thrive in a diverse world that sometimes sends limiting messages about identity.
As educators, our role is to affirm that each student’s unique identity is valued and respected. Building positive gender relationships in school is essential for fostering students' social and emotional wellbeing.
