Faith In Action
16 Days of Activism
This semester, the three Year 9 & 10 Faith in Action classes have been learning about the effect they can have on the world. They have learned about Catholic social teaching such as Solidarity and the aspects of Jesus' ministry embodied in Living Justics Living Peace, such as Seeking Change.
One important lesson is that we as individuals can make a difference in the world by directly volunteering to help people in need, and also by raising awareness of issues and encouraging others to become involved. We chose to become involved in the UN Women Australia 16 Days of Activism - Safe, Always, Everywhere, which aims to raise awareness of violence against women across the world, and to raise funds to support projects across the world that aim to reduce violence against women and girls.
16 Days of Activism involves walking for 16 days with a target distance in mind, promoting the campaign on your own social media and raising money from donations. The classes have spent three lessons walking laps of Ainsworth reserve and taking photos to promote the campaign. Some girls have walked up to 6km in a lesson! They have also produced pamphlets to promote the campaign and reflected on their involvement in the project. One girl reflected yesterday that having an understanding of why we were walking and the help we were giving made it easier to commit to walking.
