From the Principal

Welcome Back for Term 4

Dear BMGS Community,

I warmly welcome everyone back for what promises to be an exciting and fast-paced Term 4. I would also like to thank our community for supporting and celebrating with our Year 12 students (Class of 2024) as they concluded their formal schooling at the end of last term. Your presence and encouragement made those moments memorable for our students and their families.

The Class of 2024 is now underway with their HSC exams, and I’m pleased to report that their mood is positive and they are doing well. Meanwhile, our Class of 2025 has officially stepped into their senior year. We are eager to see the leadership, energy, and vision they will bring to our school over the coming year.

School Strategic Plan Update

A key focus for us this term is the ongoing development of the school’s strategic plan. We expect the final document to be produced within the next few weeks. Once complete, we will share a copy with each community member and hold a series of workshops for the launch. This plan represents significant contributions from staff, students, and parents, and I would like to thank everyone for their invaluable input.

Student Voice and Self-Advocacy

One of the most exciting strategic initiatives we’re pursuing in the Strategic Plan is the increased emphasis on student voice and self-advocacy. We actively seek our students’ opinions and ideas on various projects across BMGS. As a recent example, we have invited our Senior School Captains to join the interview panel to select our new Deputy Head of Junior School. While their feedback will not determine the final candidate, we believe their input is an essential part of our process, ensuring that adults and students inform decisions. We are committed to amplifying student voices and offering them meaningful opportunities to contribute to school life. We will provide you with an update on the School Captains experience over the coming weeks.

Recognition

Over the recent holidays, BMGS was invited to the House of Lords and the House of Commons to be recognised for our strategic intent of “Good Learning, Doing Good” as part of the celebration of the Commonwealth’s 75th anniversary. Alongside other excellent schools such as Abbotsleigh, The Southport School, and Norwest Christian College, BMGS was celebrated for its commitment to innovative and purposeful education. This recognition affirms our belief that BMGS deserves its place among other outstanding schools.

While in the UK, we also visited two campuses of The Dwight School, a global network of premier innovative learning models. Dwight Schools have a legacy of visionary contribution with campuses in New York, London, Seoul, Shanghai, Dubai, Hanoi, and Jersey City. These relationships enhance BMGS’s position in contributing to the global conversation about high-quality learning, which we are thrilled to participate in.

World Teachers’ Day Celebration

Today, we celebrate World Teachers’ Day, a moment to reflect on the work of our staff. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to our teachers for their professionalism and care for our students. Additionally, I’d like to acknowledge the wonderful work of our new student leadership team, who organised a “Dress as a Teacher” day filled with great humour and engagement. It was a great event, and perhaps what drew the most attention were the teachers who came dressed in their old school uniforms—ties done up, shirts tucked in, and shoes polished! A true indication to the fun spirit of our community.

Looking Ahead

As we look to the weeks ahead, it’s clear that we have a very fast-paced term arranged, culminating in the lead-up to Christmas. I encourage parents to help their children stay on task and focused throughout the term so we can finish the year strong.

Let’s look forward to Term 4 with energy, joy, and purpose.

Warm regards,
