Western Metro Region Athletics
Congratulations to our two Year 5 students, Jaz and Anton, who last week competed at the Region Athletics event! Both Jaz and Anton represented North Melbourne Primary School with great pride and endeavour, spending many training sessions refining their technique and stamina to be able to compete to the best of their ability. Competing against students from schools all across the west of metropolitan Melbourne, Anton displayed exceptional strength and power to finish in 14th place in the Shot Put event. Combining speed and stamina across the distance of 800m, Jaz crossed the line in 6th place. An incredible result for both students, both who we are very proud of as a school!

Recently I had the experience of going to Region Athletics for the first time ever, competing in Shot Put. Although I didn’t move on to the next round at State, I had a fun time watching my peers and friends move on. I also learned many new rules and techniques along the way during PE in the lead up to the event.
Overall, I had a great time and learned that if I work just a little but harder and keep on training, hopefully next year I can go to the State Championships!

Last Tuesday, I competed at the SSV Region Championships. Because of a recent knee injury, I didn’t run the 1500m. The 800m was in the middle of the day - when it was 32 degrees! I came 6th out of 17. I recently ran at a State Little Aths event and came 3rd in the 400m, running up an age group. The two times that I achieved in those two races qualified me for the State Little Athletics Junior Development Squad for both sprints and middle/long distance! I am so excited to begin training with this squad, which is all around Victoria with great coaches.
