Prep

Last week in visual art, the prep students created a small mixed media artwork inspired by the night sky. They learnt how different groups of stars can form a picture called a constellation. Students used pastels to create a night sky, then added wooden matchsticks to join stars and form their own constellation pictures. This artwork allowed the preps to show their creativity, while working on their fine motor skills.

Grade 1 & 2

Last week our grade ones and twos created jellyfish sculptures using a range of materials, including paper patty-pans, ribbons, wool, cellophane and metallic paper strips. The students practiced blending two or more watercolours on their patty-pans to create the body colours, being careful not to add too much water. They chose their own materials for tentacles and attached them together. With assistance, the patty pans were then threaded onto a piece of wool and the tentacles were attached. During this lesson, the students helped to make decisions about how their work would be displayed.

Grade 3 & 4

Grade threes and fours focused online and pattern last week in visual art and were introduced to zentangles –abstract works of art created by a collection of patterns. For this exploration, students followed a guided drawing of a spider web. After drawing their web, students used black fine-liner pens or markers to fill in each section of their web with a different pattern. We got to see so many creative patterns and designs!

Grade 5 & 6

Last week the grade five and six students explored advanced colour pallets. They learnt about complementary colours (colours opposite each other on the colour wheel) and analogous colours (similar colours positioned next to each other on the colour wheel). Students also explored abstract patterned artworks by Australian Artist Erin Elsley. Using her artworks as inspiration, they chose their own paint-slick colour pallet (complementary or analogous) and painted shapes and patterns to create an eye-catching artwork. Here are some of their artworks:
