Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series

On Wednesday 9/10 selected students from grade 1, 2, 5 and 6 participated in a Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series (VCES) event hosted by Drama Victoria. Grade 1/2 students had to use their imagination to change ‘spike’ (a spikey ball) into another object. They had to act out what their object was and everyone else had to guess it.

Students then had to use their body to make different statues and think creatively about how they could move their body into different positions.

After that, students were given 3 words which they had to incorporate into a short story/play and then share it back to the rest of the group.

All students loved the games and activities and from today. They showed creative thinking throughout the session and really enjoyed the acting components.

Grade 5/6 students had this to say about their experience:

“It was really good to get out of our comfort zone and try new things. Everyone was out of their comfort zone, so it was good to not be alone.”

“We played fun games and activities that helped us learn about critical thinking and helped us to think things through. We really enjoyed today and think students next year should be able to take part in this event.”

Students loved playing a game called ‘What are you doing?’ which involved them acting and thinking on the spot. They also had to act as different furniture pieces and persuade people as to why they should not be thrown out. Students worked in teams to create different objects with their bodies.

This group worked together to create a helicopter.

                                                     These two groups created cars.
