The Lab Report

The students have been doing an amazing job in science the past few weeks. The Foundation students have been going through the 5 senses, 3 down, 2 more to go! 

The Year 1 students have been going deeper into sound and hearing, finishing with a musical science lesson thanks to some loans from Mr Stewart in the Music room! Our Year 2s have been looking at how animals move and how that affects how they live and where they live. Year 3 and 4 have been looking at heat and magnets, which has also been given as optional home learning - I will talk more about that in a minute. Year 5 have started exploring how light works with reflection, refraction and absorption and the Year 6 students have been studying safety with electricity and the different types of electricity generation before we start our circuits lessons next week. 

Going back to the Year 3 and Year 4 Home Learning Task, students were asked to go home and look for items that we had been learning about in class. For the Year 3s that was things that produced their own heat. They had to take photos to bring in or email, draw pictures or make brainstorms that they could bring in for our display. The Year 4s were looking for how magnets were used in everyday life, asking their parents if they used magnets in their workplaces as well. We are still getting students' hand in their hard work, so the pictures below are just what we currently have on display in our Lab, but they are super helpful for our learning and we will be using them to continue our explorations about this terms’ scientific concepts and their real life applications. Thank you to the parents who helped as well. While some students were independent, I know that there were a lot of parents who helped with the tasks and talked about the real life applications for the students' learning.
