Family Movie Night Tomorrow - POSTPONED

Our intended Movie Night for tomorrow evening been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. We are very sorry to do this and apologise for the change in the arrangements. We will let you know when we are able to reschedule the event.

Market Day

What a fabulous day we had at our first Market Day, which was held on the last Saturday in October! So many people came to enjoy the market stalls in the hall, and there was a great variety of wares to choose from. We also had delicious food trucks, selling yummy offerings, and our school stalls with some hidden gems of books, games and toys. The kids who came really enjoyed the games; there were lots of laughs at the Chocolate Toss game! We had many lovely donations of baked goods from our community for the Bake Sale stall as well. It was a terrific community event, and the fabulous sunny day helped bring in the people.

Thanks to the SPS staff who coordinated stalls and rosters and made our school section a big success. We are grateful to the parents who came and manned stalls for an hour on the day, and the many people who generously donated books, games and toys.

Kristy Davis, the PFA President, organised and planned the Market Day, and did a lot of the background work in securing the external stall holders, organising the food trucks and gathering prizes for the Silent Auction. Thanks for your hard work and efforts, Kristy; it was enjoyed by all.

Finally, a huge thank you to all of the members of our PFA who attended meetings, helped set up and pack up on the day, manned stalls, and helped organise the event; it was great to see everyone working together! It was a very successful Market Day!

Gardens And New HEART Wall

Our front gardens are looking particularly lovely at the moment, and it’s due to a few factors.

Nic started the tyre garden project, and it is almost complete. The tyres have been painted, placed and filled with soil by the “Gardening Club” she established, and then were planted out under her guidance at the Working Bee. The 5 /6s have then come along and spread the mulch around, and it’s looking wonderful. They have also been weeding and cleaning the carpark. I think it’s great to have kids outside, taking pride in their school and surrounds.

Then there’s the magnificent mural Kate Fox has created. We are still in awe of the mural and her creativity. The garden bed in front of the wall will also be planted out soon. Kate managed to engage many students to help her paint the mural, and her father-in-law, Roger, came along to help out as well. It has revived an older space in our school grounds, and puts our HEART values front and centre. Thank you Kate for your ideas and enthusiasm. It’s a beautiful addition to our grounds.

School Fees

It’s the time of the year when we sit down and review our school budgets, and organise books and equipment for the following year. The financial pressure most people are facing at the moment is certainly very real, and it does apply to schools and education as well.

Currently we are sitting at only 51% of SPS families who have paid their annual school fees for the 2024 school year. We have provided all students with equipment (writing books, maths books, pencils, glue sticks, paper and photocopying) throughout the year, regardless of school fee payment status as per Department of Education policies, and also because we certainly don’t want any child being left out. We are making up the shortfall of fees from our own funds.

We have already placed orders for next year’s classroom supplies and personal items so they can be ready for the beginning of 2025. We would greatly appreciate any contribution towards outstanding 2024 school fees. At this stage of the year, every little bit helps.

Colour Explosion Fun Run – Friday 22nd November 2.00-3.30pm

We are all getting very excited for our Colour Explosion Run 4 Fun coming soon. Please encourage your children to make a profile and get sponsors; this is how we raise funds for our school, and this year we are also sending funds to save the Great Barrier Reef, instead of our students receiving plastic novelty toys and games as prizes.

We are looking for volunteers to help out on the day. If you can offer some time to assist, please contact Belinda Reynen via leebee@iinet.com.au

Food For Families Project

This term, the SRC has decided to support Uniting’s Food For Families Project. Food For Families collects non-perishable food items like canned soup, packets of pasta, and baked beans, as well as household essential items including personal hygiene and cleaning products, to support those who need it most. Food for Families connects with local communities through schools, kindergartens, congregations, workplaces, community groups, individuals and families to make a difference to those facing hardship.

Each classroom has a Food for Families box which we are hoping to fill to support families in need. We would appreciate any donations that you are able to offer. For ideas on what to donate, please check out the shopping list here .
