Speech & Occupational Therapy at Brinbeal Secondary College

Occupational Therapist - Aisling Jordan

My name is Aisling, and I am thrilled to be the Occupational Therapist (OT) at Brinbeal Secondary College. In my practice as an OT, I strive to use a neuro-affirming and strengths-based approach. I am passionate about supporting students in being able to engage and participate in activities that are meaningful and important to them in different aspects of life. This includes areas such as handwriting, fine and gross motor skills, self-care skills, navigating sensory preferences, organisational skills, transitions, and social and emotional regulation skills. I also enjoy building rapport and connecting with people, and acknowledge the benefit of working with students, families/caregivers, and teachers to support across the different environments of life. Outside of being an OT, I enjoy pottery, travelling and spending time with my family.

Parents/carers and teachers are welcome to liaise with the student and refer for OT services with me at school. Students can also self-refer to OT services. Students will require written consent from their parent or caregiver to attend OT at school.

Speech Pathologist - Charmaine Pope

Hello to the Brinbeal Community! My name is Charmaine Pope and I am Brinbeal Secondary College’s school Speech Pathologist. I’ve been working in the education system for about a decade now. My experience has mainly been within the Department of Education and Training and as a school based speechie.

My role at the college is vast, as I can work with students on many areas such as:

  • understanding spoken language (receptive language)
  • expressing thoughts, ideas and emotions (expressive language)
  • fluency (disorder in fluency is called stuttering)
  • articulation or speech sound pronunciation
  • phonological awareness (pre-literacy skills)
  • literacy (reading, writing and spelling)
  • voice concerns
  • swallowing difficulties

Students are more than welcome to submit their own referral to the speech pathology service, which can be completed online through Compass. Parents can submit referrals by calling the school number or sending an email to the Brinbeal email. I am so excited to be working with the Brinbeal community!
