World Oceans Day – Sustaining What Sustains Us
Saturday 8 June marks World Oceans Day, a global celebration of the ocean and its crucial role in supporting life on Earth. Covering over 70% of the planet, the ocean produces at least half of the world’s oxygen, is home to an extraordinary range of biodiversity, and provides food and livelihoods to billions of people.
To mark the occasion, our Junior School Council ran a World Oceans Day Poster Competition, inviting students to create artwork that highlights the importance of ocean conservation. We were blown away by the creativity and powerful messages shared by our students. Congratulations to all participants, and especially to our winners, who were announced at assembly today. Let’s continue to work together to sustain what sustains us.
Year 6 Camp 2025 The Ranch, Mornington Peninsula
Our Year 6 students recently enjoyed an unforgettable three-day adventure at The Ranch on the Mornington Peninsula. Throughout the camp, students took part in a variety of outdoor activities including horse riding, the giant swing, bush cooking, initiatives course, the pamper pole and mountain boarding. Each experience challenged students to be courageous and step outside their comfort zones.
Our students showed resilience, enthusiasm and teamwork, consistently upholding our school values. We are incredibly proud of the way they represented Cheltenham East Primary School throughout the entire camp experience.
A heartfelt thank you goes to the dedicated staff who made this camp a success: our Year 6 teaching team, Mr Packham and Miss Boucher, for their organisation and planning, and to the team who attended and supported the students across the three days—Mr Ridgway, Natasha, Divya and our student teacher, Anna. Your care and energy ensured a safe and memorable experience for all.
Public Holiday Kings Birthday Monday 9 June
A reminder to all families that this coming Monday is a public holiday, and the school will be closed. We wish everyone a safe and happy long weekend, whether you're enjoying some rest at home or heading off on a road trip.
Please take care on the roads, allow extra travel time, and drive safely. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday, refreshed and ready for another great week of learning at Cheltenham East Primary School.
Have a great long weekend,
Jared Chaplin
