SECONDARY (7-12)

Year 7 Science

The Year 7 students have been investigating the particle model this week in science and how particles move. They used food colouring and water to investigate if temperature affected how particles move.ย

Junior Winter Sports

Last week, our Year 7 and 8 students took part in the Junior Winter Sports Day. We proudly sent off two soccer teams, along with one team each for netball, badminton, and clay shooting to their respective venues.

It was a fantastic day of competition, and our students represented the college with enthusiasm and pride.

What an incredible skill to have - the ability to help save a life!ย

Our Year 9 students learned how to perform CPR and use a defibrillator. They were introduced to the DRSABCD action plan (Danger, Response, Send for help, Airway, Breathing, CPR, Defibrillation) - a vital first aid guideline for handling emergency situations. Additionally, they practiced the COWS assessment, equipping them with essential life skills to assess a patientโ€™s level of responsiveness.

After attentively watching Tylerโ€™s demonstration, students confidently put their new skills into practice.

Yr 10 Food Studies

The Year 10 Food Studies students created a smorgasbord of delicious โ€˜fake awayโ€™ meals yesterday, inspired by take away food options, but adding a healthy twist.

The students lead the entire project themselves, designing their menu, ordering their required ingredients, and cooking their meals without any assistance.

The delicious options ranged from replica KFC meals such as the famous Twister, tenders and popcorn chicken. A Subway sandwich bar was also created with students beginning their cook many hours ahead, ensuring their dough could proof in time. There was also a selection of tasty burgers, including a creative vegetarian sloppy joe and beautifully presented loaded fries.ย

The students were all impressed with how their work came together โ€“ tasting absolutely delicious!!

๐™๐™ค๐™˜๐™ช๐™จ ๐™ค๐™ฃ ๐™†๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™™๐™ฃ๐™š๐™จ๐™จ

The focus of the Year 7 Assembly was the importance of kindness. Students were encouraged to reflect on the quote by E. Lockhart: โ€ They were reminded that small acts of kindness can have a big impact, and that taking the time to care for others helps create a more positive and supportive school environment.

ย

The assembly also included discussions around respect, both in and outside the classroom, and excitement for the upcoming Year 7 camp. Anticipation is growing for what promises to be a fun-filled adventure packed with activities and opportunities to build new friendships. Students were shown photos of the camp location in Queenscliff, and Rohan answered many eager questions to help them prepare.

ย

To conclude the assembly, outstanding students were recognised with Semester 1 achievement awards. These awards celebrated their hard work and success, while also inspiring all students to aim high as they move into Semester 2.

Year 9 Assembly

Year 9 students came together to celebrate their great achievements so far this semester. Rohan commended the cohort for doing a fantastic job following college expectations, strong attendance and attention to uniform. Rohan also spoke of their upcoming Semester 2 excursion, where students were encouraged to contribute to the planning.

Certificates were awarded to high-achieving students, who were met with enthusiastic applause and support from a lively audience of peers.

Students were also reminded of the importance of kindness, with a message that acting with compassion brings benefits to everyone.

Congratulations to all our Year 9 students - what a great bunch you are!

Year 10-12 Assembly

Excellence was the focus of the Year 10โ€“12 Assembly, led by the School Captains.

ย

The assembly began with a motivational video featuring iconic figures such as Michael Jordan, Walt Disney, and Steve Jobs. The video emphasised that failure is often a stepping stone to success, inspiring students to persevere through challenges.

ย

Mr. Butts then addressed the students, highlighting the importance of their educational journey and encouraging them to begin planning for the future. He reminded them of the positive influence they have on the broader school community. Noting that Term 2 is a critical period in the school year, Mr. Butts urged students to strive for their best, emphasising the role of organisation in enhancing learning and supporting mental wellbeing. He expressed gratitude for their leadership and maturity, adding, "It makes my job easier."

ย

Students also had the opportunity to engage with a powerful artwork by Troy Firebrace. They discussed key features of the piece and were encouraged to take time to view it in more detail.

ย

Our exchange student, Karolina, shared her personal journey as a visitor from Slovakia. She reflected on her growth since arriving, spoke candidly about the ups and downs of her experience, and shared what she will and wonโ€™t miss as her time with us comes to a close. Karolina has been a valued friend, student, and member of our community, and she will be deeply missed.

ย

The assembly concluded with an awards presentation. Academic Awards were given to students in Years 10, 11, and 12 who achieved an score of 85% or higher. This was followed by the Work Ethic Awards, recognising students who have shown outstanding dedication and perseverance in their studies.

ย

Congratulations to all students on a successful and inspiring first half of the year!
