Year -1/2 Unit

Hello Wonderful 1/2 Families and Community! 

Our 1/2 classes are embarking on an exciting journey through the solar system, delving into the wonders of each planet. Having completed our informative reports, we're now channeling our creativity into crafting paper mâché models of the planets. Though the process is delightfully messy, the students are filled with enthusiasm to showcase their finished masterpieces to classmates and parents alike. Stay tuned for upcoming announcements regarding the special viewing event where families will be invited to admire these stellar projects. We are also very excited about our ‘Cosmodome Incursion’ that will be happening on Monday 16th of June. 

In our Literacy sessions, students have begun exploring a variety of fiction texts to deepen their understanding of narrative structures. They are learning to summarize key events, identify essential elements such as characters, setting, and plot, and analyze how these components contribute to the overall purpose and intended audience of a narrative. This focus on narrative comprehension enhances their ability to engage with stories and supports their development as thoughtful readers and writers. This has complemented our narrative unit in Writing and students have loved using their Writer’s Notebooks to brainstorm and plan ideas for narratives. 

Students have been practising their subtraction skills by exploring various strategies, including counting back, subtracting ten, and revisiting part-part-whole concepts. Through engaging games and activities, they have expanded their mathematical vocabulary and developed a deeper understanding of how to determine the difference between two numbers. These interactive approaches not only make learning a lot of fun, but also reinforce essential subtraction skills for our learners. 

As the winter chill sets in, we're encouraging all students to bring their jumpers and any additional layers to school to stay warm during outdoor activities. To help ensure these items return home each day, please make sure all clothing is clearly labelled with your child’s name.
