Senior School
Inquiry Learning
This term, students in grade 5 and 6 are inquiring into how the characteristics of countries in Asia are similar and different to those in Australia. To further consolidate their understanding, they went on an excursion to the Museum of Australian Chinese History.
Students explored the history of Chinese migration to Australia and examined the lasting legacy of the Han Dynasty through its key inventions and innovations. They investigated the history and cultural significance of Chinatown, delved into the tradition of lanterns, and had the opportunity to create their own lanterns as part of their learning experience.
Back in the classroom, students put their knowledge to the test by taking part in a quiz about the Chinese Museum, thoughtfully created by Delphine. Congratulations to Nicole from 5/6C, who achieved the highest score—clearly showing how closely she had been paying attention!
Students at Weeden are very fortunate to have access to a set of VR goggles, which provided students with an immersive and highly engaging experience as they explored and interacted with famous landmarks and natural features of several Asian countries.
Simultaneous Story Time
National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual event organised by the Australian Library and Information Association during Education Week. Each year, a picture book by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in schools, libraries, pre-schools, childcare centres, homes, bookshops, and other venues across the country.
Now celebrating its 25th year, NSS is a lively and engaging event that promotes the importance of reading and literacy. The selected book explores age-appropriate themes and supports key learning areas of the Australian Curriculum from Foundation to Year 6.
This year, each class gathered in the hall to hear the 2025 text ,The Truck Cat, written by Deborah Frenkel and illustrated by Danny Snell.
