A Word from the Principal

Ms Kylie Campbell

A warm welcome to our community

Brrr…it has turned cold, windy and it feels like Winter already! I hope you are all staying warm.

Exciting News!

Congratulations to all of the students who represented Weedn Heights PS at the Division Cross Country on Wednesday.  Incredible with many personal bests in there.  We are all very proud of their efforts.  A special congratulations to the Purvis family as both Leela and Ken came third and second in their division and that means they qualified for the Regionals.  Wooo hooo and good luck!

Help, we need your assistance!

This week I have a put out two calls for help to support the school and unfortunately there has been no response.

Firstly I have requested families to share our paid advertisements on Facebook.  I have been watching the statistics on the views etc and the advertisements are not travelling as far as they have in previous years.  If you can help out by sharing the pages to your contacts, networks and neighbourhood pages then that would be a massive help.  We live in a community that is very slow growing and when people move into  Vermont South they tend to stay in their homes.  It does mean there is a lack of young families to support enrolments at the school so we take students from out of zone to assist here.  Please consider supporting our school by sharing our wonderful school with others.

Secondly, our kitchen program is desperately  lacking volunteers and it does mean the program is severely compromised.  I have  reached out to the parents of 5.6C (as the class is involved in the program this term) as we may have to cut activities to ensure student safety and consider other ways to learn the curriculum.  Our Kitchen/Garden program is a highly successful but requires people to volunteer to ensure that the learning takes place and to support the safety of every student.

I’m now calling for helpers from across the school. Volunteers can be parents/guardians, family member, grandparent or an enthusiastic neighbour.  Sessions are on a Wednesday from 11.30 – 1.30pm so if you are able to assist, it would be greatly appreciated by the students and myself.  Please pop your name down in the attached document  if you are available to support what previously has been, a very valued program.

Attitudes to School Survey

We value student voice at Weeden Heights because it is a means to improving student engagement, wellbeing and quality instruction. Students in years 5 and 6 completed the Attitudes to School Survey last week. By completing the survey, the school is able to identify what students think, believe and how they feel about their learning, peers, teachers and Weeden Heights PS.  Year 4 will be completing their survey next Thursday.

The Attitudes to School survey is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience.

The survey is completed online during school hours and all responses from each student are confidential.

Cold, Flu and Covid reminders

With the arrival of the colder weather there is an increase of colds, COVID and flu at this time of year. Whilst we understand that students want to attend school, it is important that they stay at home and return to school when they are completely well. If your child presents at school with coughs and sniffles, it places all students and staff at risk.

Enrolments for Preps in 2026 : Sibling enrolments

We would really appreciate if our Weeden Heights families with preschoolers coming to school in 2026, could fill in their online enrolment forms and submit them on the Insight Platform.  We know that there are a few families out there who have not yet enrolled. If you have neighbours starting school next year, please let them know about the final dates and send them to our office for an enrolment form and a tour.

Schools do have zones  however, Weeden Heights is in a position to take students from out of our zoned area as we sit on a very large school site. Please encourage friends and neighbours to take a look at Weeden Heights PS.  Our highly successful Bright Beginnings transition program commences at the end of term 3  and we do not want our future students to miss the opportunity to attend.  Please contact either Beck, Shivani or Sarah in the office and collect an enrolment pack for your pre-schooler . Thank you.

Reminder that the King’s Birthday long weekend is coming up on 7, 8 and 9 June so I hope your family has organised something nice to do together.

Stay warm and healthy everyone! Until next time……
