A NATURE WALK AROUND BHNPS

The children in both Correa and Hakea group concluded their Reconciliation week by exploring the school grounds on Monday 2nd of June. This experience was inspired from seeing a varied array of indigenous plants on campus. 5 different areas were chosen with an image of a tree/native plant, and the children were very quick at identifying the areas. The children worked in groups of 3 to collect natural materials to stick onto their worksheet. Our first stop was the school park where we witnessed the big Eucalyptus leucixulon rosea with bright pink flowers. Next, we visited the Lomandra longifolia and Salvia rosmarinus near the hall, finally the beautiful Grevillea flowers on display outside the P-2 building. It was a delight to see children picking objects already on the ground instead of picking straight from the plant. This ties in with what the children are focusing on this term – caring for the environment.
