Term 2 Week 6
It has been a busy term thus far!
Grade 3 are creating baskets using techniques used by indiginous Australians for many years. Students are trying very hard to focus on their weaving demonstrating some great persistence.
Grade 4 students are using Sphero Bolts to code their way through mazes involving right, obtuse and acute angles. They have discovered that the distance the robot travels is determined by the speed and time variables.
Grade 5 are exploring coding using the microbits and explored designs to program the microbits to be a random dice, name badge with scrolling screen, code rock, paper, scissors and play against a human partner.
Grade 6 students have designed a toy from a sock that they will gift later in the year.
They have been busy threading needles and tying knots independently. Back stitch has been explicitly taught with varying degrees of success but definitly showing improvement!
The Music room has been buzzing this fortnight with so many busy things!
Prep:
Prep students celebrated World Bee day by transforming into bees and buzzing around the room along with singing many 'bee related' songs.
They explored rhythm, beat and tempo using Mrs Murphy's giant elastic band, singing, bouncing and stretching.
Grade 1:
Students continued to work on keeping a steady beat this fortnight. They followed along to some beats playing on their bucket drums. We looked at different parts of the drums and how the sound changed when we played either the top, side, rim of clicked our sticks together.
Grade 2:
Students continued to play their way through Glockenspiel Karate. It has proven very challenging as the music isn't colour-coded like they've been used to previously. Many student's across the year level have passed white belt with some getting to orange and green!
All student's had the opportunity to explore Chrome Music Lab this week on the iPads. It was a HIT!! I have attached the link so you can have a play at home too!

Term 2 brought the beginning of our sculpture unit of work in the art room. They are a work in progress but the students are loving using their hands to create! The Grade 3 and 4 students are learning about Aboriginal Dreamtime stories and looking at Aboriginal artwork to inspire their own designs on the clay turtles they have made. Our Grade 5 and 6 students have been exposed to Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. This inspired their design plans, armature building and will also navigate how they paint their plastered sculpture. We can't wait to view the final results at the Art Show later this year.
