Dear Skye Families,
Thank you to everyone who came to our 'Magical Maths World' extravaganza on Tuesday afternoon. These community events are so important to us at Skye as they give parents the opportunity to learn more about our teaching and learning approaches whilst also bringing everyone together to have some fun.
Despite the rain, we had a fantastic turnout from the community with every one of the Maths 'lands' full of students and families participating in the variety of maths challenges on offer. Stay tuned for the next Assembly on Friday 15th June where we will draw the prize winners from the Maths raffle.
Big thanks to our Maths Learning Specialist, Hailee Eade who spent countless hours organising the event. If you weren't able to make the parent information session, head over to the Curriculum page where Mr. Snow shares a summary and the slide deck he and Miss Eade presented. This presentation contains some important information about the change to the Maths reporting structure which will take effect this semester.
A reminder that next Friday 6th June is a Pupil Free Day. Teachers will be using this day for assessment and reporting purposes. The assessment period is coming to a close shortly and this will help to support teacher judgements for the upcoming Semester 1 reports.
We're excited to announce that our completely redesigned school website is now available for our community to explore! Although there are still a few finishing touches to complete, the major transformation of our online presence has been accomplished. The fresh layout beautifully represents our school's identity and learning philosophy with streamlined navigation, refreshed content, and striking visual features. We're especially proud of how the new site functions as both a valuable information hub for existing families and an engaging showcase for families considering joining our community.
A huge thank you to one of our school dads, Rob Jenkins (Turfmate) who generously donated time and resources to turn our footy oval into a mini MCG. The new line markings have been a huge hit with our students adding extra spice to the lunch time Skye Footy League. He also added a running track which has seen many fun recess and lunch time races.
On Friday 16th of May our Eco-Warriors demonstrated their love of all things sustainability and the environment by participating in a tree planting event. Environmental experts from VicRoads gave our Eco-Warriors a short presentation on the trees we were planting, the 'Crepe Myrtle'. They taught us appropriate planting techniques including the importance of digging a hole wider and deeper than the pot the tree came in and teasing out the roots so the plants can find its place in our soil. Eco-Warriors named each tree, so next time you take a walk down to the back gate admire the planting skills of our Eco-Warriors and look out for names such as 'Autumn, Rozy, Retro and Tulip'.
We have noticed recently that a number of students are being dropped at school very early (sometimes before 8am!). A reminder that students should not be dropped off at school prior to 8:30am. Our supervision of the yard does not begin until that time and students should not be left without a parent or guardian. Families are encouraged to utilise the before school care service run by Team Kids if an early drop off is required.
Start your Friday off right with a coffee and a book in the library! Our friends at 'Froffin It' will be positioned outside the entrance to the Library every Friday from 8am serving delicious coffee and food. The Library is then open from 8:15am for families to browse, borrow or just sit and relax with a good book.
Tickets are selling fast for the Skye Primary School Trivia Night next month! If you haven't already booked your tickets, jump on the link below to purchase single tickets for $20 or tables of 8 for $140.
Have a great fortnight!
Warm regards,
Tim
