What's happening in the classrooms this fortnight?

Literacy:

Next week we will start looking at a new mentor text 'Feathers' by Phil Cummings. The students will explore a couple of the themes in the next such as migration and will practice answering comprehension questions. We have also been busy in our assessment period which will continue into next week.

Numeracy:

This week we have continued to look at fractions. Our lessons have covered a number of areas within fractions, such as fractions of a shape and a collection. The students have been practicing labelling and identifying halves, thirds, quarters and fifths. Next week we will investigate patterns, specifically looking at doubling, halving and multiplies of 2,5 and 10.

Inquiry:

Now that we have seen our beautiful native Australian animals in the flesh, we will begin our research projects around an animal of your child's choice. We will research the conservation status, what threats our fauna face and what we can do to improve their outcomes. Check out our excursion pictures down below!

Wellbeing:

This week we started a new topic in our Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships framework. This topic is all about problem solving and how we can build resilience when faced with issues in our daily lives. They also give our students strategies to help solve issues which can directly affect them.

Also continuing the theme of Aussie Animals this week, we did a check in last week after our excursion... I wonder which number you would pick and why? These funny graphics are one way we connect with the students in the morning and check in on how they're feeling in a light hearted positive way!

Magical Maths World

We would like to extend a massive thank you to you all and your families for the turn out to our open Maths afternoon. The activities were a hit and we hope you gained some fun insight on how we engage the children in Maths at Skye!

I have attached a couple of the activities we had across the school if you would like to use them at home. (I cannot attach all as some breach copyright).

Moonlit Sanctuary

The weather held on for us last Thursday for our excursion to Moonlit! We would like to firstly extend a big thank you to the sanctuary for providing us meaningful experience. Next a big thankyou to Cam, Kellie and Lauren for assisting us on the day. We were so proud of the students in how they represented us and our community and how they treated the wildlife with so much respect... even the ducks who were VERY keen to get to the food!

Need our emails? Here they are! Please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
