Connect: Year 2

Hello Grade Two Families,

We loved seeing some of our wonderful families exploring our Magical Maths World this week despite the awful weather that quickly reminded us that Winter is coming!!! On that note, please make sure your child has spare socks and clothes in their school bags as puddles, mud and children are often the best of friends.

We had our first day of swimming today and the buzz of excitement definitely kept us on our feet. We look forward to another full week (less Friday 6/7 as that is a Curriculum Day) of swimming to come!

Thanks,

Hailee, Dave, and Emma

- Learning starts promptly in the morning. Please remember to take/remind your child to use the toilet before the 8.45am bell so nothing important is missed.

- We are noticing a number of students are requiring ongoing support to tie their shoelaces and this is becoming a big distraction in the classroom. Here is a handy video they can watch to practise - EASIEST shoe tying trick ever

Upcoming Learning

Literacy

In Phonics we will be reviewing recent learning, including the many ways to make the long vowel sounds (such as 'ay' -> ai/ay/a-e/a/eigh/ey; and 'ee' -> ee/ea/-y/ee/e).

To celebrate our Ancient Greece unit coming to an end, students will be tasked with the job of designing their own ancient god or goddess, thinking about their special powers, traits and friends and enemies. Keep your eyes peeled as we will feature these in the newsletter in the coming weeks!

Numeracy

  • Students will be learning to partition, regroup and rename three-digit numbers before writing them in standard and non-standard from.
  • They will also be exploring measurement with a focus on estimating and comparing the length of objects using uniform informal units of measurement (you may have had a go at an activity like this at our Measurement Mountain Land for the Maths Open Afternoon.

Wellbeing

  • Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships - positive coping strategies and regulation (taking the Zones of Regulation Lense). We may also get to facinf fears dependent on our swimming schedule.
  • Ready to Learn plans are complete and students are building their capacity to access these when feeling like they are not ready to learn.

Inquiry

Our Term 2 unit, Stimulating Science is going strong! Students have enjoyed exploring Biological Science and building their understanding of what makes something living or non-living. It is not long until our GRADE 2 SCIENCE DAY- we look forward to seeing what costumes the students come up with!
