What's On in 5/6

OPEN AFTERNOON

On Thursday 22nd May we celebrated cultural diversity during our open afternoon. We listened to the story ‘Where are you From?’ by Yamile Saied Mendez, then decorated suitcases with images and words to represent our cultural backgrounds. We are proudly displaying these in our 5/6 shared space. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for the open afternoon. We look forward to welcoming you back into our classrooms in the near future!

Integrated Unit - ‘Making Democracy’

This term we have been exploring the meaning of democracy. Each class eagerly participated in a ‘mock vote’ to experience what it would be like to vote in an election and to see how Australia’s preferential voting system works. Students also shared their knowledge about the three levels of government by creating interactive posters. Their carefully researched facts were creatively presented using interactive elements such as flaps, slides, envelopes and pop ups to engage their readers.

DIVISION CROSS COUNTRY

A huge congratulations to the eight Whitehorse Primary students who attended Division Cross Country on Monday 26th May. Caleb, Justin, Morgan, Karina, Alice, Bailey, Lachlan and Autumn represented our school with fantastic sportsmanship and perseverance. We are incredibly proud of all of their efforts and thrilled to share that 4 students have qualified for the State level competition!

BUDDIES

We love spending time with our Kinder and Foundation buddies! Our students have been reflecting on what skills they can help our younger students learn and what they themselves learn by being a buddy.

Being a buddy makes us more responsible. In buddies we learn how to care for younger children. It helps us think about how we can be a role model for all younger grades. We also teach our buddies how to be kind, which means to use kind hands, use manners and respect others. We do activities like drawing and crafting, so we still have fun!

Our buddies are mostly active and curious. Although some of them are a bit shy, we help them to feel comfortable and socialise. When we are with our buddies, we learn to respect those who are in a different age group. We teach them to be kind to each other and play cooperatively. Spending time with buddies is a fun experience!
