Reconciliation Week

Reconciliation Week 2025: Celebrating Culture, Connection, and Learning

Our school marked National Reconciliation Week (NRW) from May 27 to June 3, embracing this year's theme, Bridging Now to Next. This annual observance invites Australians to learn about shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The week started with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony led by Wurundjeri man Thane Garvey. Our students, staff and parents were privileged to participate in this significant cultural event, setting a respectful tone for the week.

In the kitchen garden class, students engaged with native Australian ingredients by baking cookies infused with lemon myrtle and pepperberry. This hands-on activity not only delighted the senses but also deepened students' appreciation for Indigenous food traditions.

Throughout the week, classrooms explored the historical importance of reconciliation, discussing milestones such as the 1967 Referendum and the Mabo High Court decision, which are commemorated during NRW . Students participated in film screenings and shared their learnings in a special assembly, reflecting on how they can contribute to a reconciled Australia.

Reconciliation Week serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to build respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community. By engaging in these meaningful activities, our school community has taken steps toward a more inclusive and united future.
