PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Parents & Carers,
Thank you for taking the time to read this edition of our school newsletter. As always there are some great celebrations and important information to share.
Expeditions and Adventures!
It’s great to see our students getting involved in all the camps and travel opportunities the College has to offer. This year student participation has increased in these exciting events.
In addition to our recently returned World Challenge Borneo team, we soon have a group of students and staff heading interstate to central Australia connecting with desert country and culture. This is the first interstate trip for students in recent years. We wish the team all the best and look forward to hearing their stories when they return.
Last week was a very busy week for our Outdoor Education team with the annual Year 9 Bogong Outdoor School leadership camp. This camp sees a team of Year 9 students develop leadership knowledge, skills and resilience and apply these in a range of challenging contexts. An important part of this work includes developing an understanding of respectful relationships, diversity, team goals and conflict management strategies. Teachers leading the program commented on the exceptional levels of maturity and personal growth they saw in the team as the week progressed.
Also at Year 9, our Outdoor Education students recently spent two days walking the Great Ocean Walk in the Otway National Park. This adventure offers the chance to connect with country, build resilience and experience one of Victoria's most stunning coastal trails. In addition to connecting to the environment these students develop a sense of independence as they tackle this challenging walk carrying equipment and managing life on the trail together.
I’d like to congratulate all the student involved in these programs for ‘embracing challenge and achieving excellence’ in these programs.
Rock Stars!
We know that SCSC has a long history of outstanding musical talent amongst our students and staff. Our school is well known in the local area (and beyond) as a school of excellence in contemporary music.
Recently parents and community were treated to a evening of musical performances from our student-formed bands. Our young people took to the stage to showcase their creativity and celebrate weeks of hard work building their performance skills. This level of collaboration helps our young people develop confidence while honing their ability to work as part of a team, each band member having an important part to play. Stepping up to the challenge of performing in front of family and friends is a brave act and one that should be highly commended!
All these students should be very proud of themselves, just as their family, friends and teachers were proud of them on the night. Thanks to all who came to out and supported this event.
Safety on e-bikes and scooters.
A reminder to all students traveling to and from school that e-bikes and scooters must be used appropriately and all road safety rules must be adhered to.
The Surf Coast Shire will be changing some access points to nearby playing fields, partly in response to safety concerns about e-bike and scooters being ridden across playing surfaces and damaging them. Some nearby ovals and pitches will soon have gates removed to limit access.
I respectfully ask that all parents and carers please remind your children to be safe when traveling to and from school and to respect all road rules and safety protocols. It is likely we will see a greater presence of shire rangers and police patrolling common areas during mornings and afternoons to ensure our young people are remaining safe at these times.
Uniform Update.
I recently sent communication to all parents and carers about updates to school uniform (pants) via Compass. I ask that if you are to yet to do so, please read this letter as it provides clarity on the recent change announced by the Minister for Education late last term. It is important that students continue to attend school following our uniform expectations and policies.
Thank you for reading. Take care.
