Stage 6 Retreat Highlights

Stage 6 students enjoyed a fantastic time away on their Senior Retreat! While the weather forecast wasn’t looking too promising, we miraculously avoided the worst of it during our activities, making for a memorable and refreshing few days before the students commenced their HSC courses.

Highlights included a fun surf session with Rusty and the team from Gerringong Surf School, a Hawaiian-themed barefoot bowls afternoon, a coastal walk to Gerringong Boat Harbour, beach activities (complete with a sandcastle-making competition), and a high-energy laser skirmish session. We also had the joy of celebrating Aiden and Tess’s 18th birthdays!

A special thank you to Sam Ellery for sharing Bible messages and to the staff and Ned for their heartfelt testimonies. We are grateful for the opportunity to share the gospel with our students. It was wonderful to see students connecting beyond their usual friendship circles and building new bonds.

The Year 11 vs Year 12 games also brought some healthy competition, with Year 12 taking out the win!

Despite the weather, it was a truly special time of fun, faith, and friendship.

Accounts from the Year 6 Camp

Last week Year 6 went to Wedderburn Christian Campsite for camp. They did daring activities like the Leap of Faith which is 12 meters high as they had to jump off safely. Yr 6 also did the Giant Swing at Wedderburn as well which was 13 meters high. Yr 6 had a great time at camp with a 2 night sleep and 3 days they abseiled 6 meters high safely. Yr 6 had a great time and so will the Yr 5’s next time.

As I leaned over the edge of the cliff my heart pumped fast. I was nervous since I have never done abseiling before. I slipped and smacked into the wall of rock as I was descending. When I got to the bottom my legs were shaking but it was really fun.

As I was pulled up really high the worries hit me. I was in the sky, only holding on to one little rope that the others were pulling. Then suddenly, I let go of the rope and I dropped, swinging over a cliff. It was scary up in the sky but when you dropped it was actually really fun. It was a pretty good view once you went over the cliff.

Camp was an exciting experience but it challenged us to the very edge of our limits. The food there was amazing , most people even went back for seconds. Everyone thought camp was fun and interesting. We got to see some animals we don’t see in our everyday life such as koalas and some people even had a mouse in their cabin. Some people were really nervous at the sight of the zipline, leap of faith and the big swing but nearly everyone had a go at them. Some people screamed and Mr Mac even screamed on the big swing. It was pretty funny.

Year 6 camp was at wedderburn christian campsite in term 2 week 1. At camp students had to learn how to step out of the comfort zone and work as a team. Some of the activities at camp involved staying on the ground but most of them were in air. The highest activities Year 6 did was 13 meters high which was the giant swing.

Amaya W

We all loved Year 6 camp and all of the really fun activities they had for us. My favourite activity was the giant swing because I don't like heights but this was fun because I could do it. All of my friends had a rope and they ran away really fast and it pulled me up 15 meters into the air. You didn't have to go to the top if you were too scared. You could just yell stop and let go. The swing had an amazing view over the cliff edge, so I recommend going to camp and giving it a go.

I thought camp was fun because you got to hang out with your friends and do fun activities. Doing devotions in the morning, having free time in a nice morning breeze and being first on the swings was great. I think that this year, students made more strong friendships, and next year’s Year 6 will have a great time at Wedderburn Christian Camp in 2026.

Year 10 Visit the Illawarra Careers Expo

On Tuesday 6 May, our Year 10 students, accompanied by Miss Axtens and Mr Terlich, travelled to the Illawarra Careers Expo at the sports stadium in Berkeley for an exciting day of discovery and future planning.

The event featured a wide range of exhibitors from universities, TAFEs, training organisations, and industries across NSW. Students had the opportunity to speak directly with professionals, ask questions, and gather valuable information about possible career and study pathways.

It was a highly productive and inspiring experience for our Year 10 cohort as they begin to think about life after school. Many students came away with a clearer understanding of their options and a renewed sense of direction.

Thank you to Miss Axtens and Mr Terlich for supporting this important opportunity, and well done to our students for approaching the day with curiosity and enthusiasm!

Strong performances at Secondary Zone Cross Country

What a fantastic day it was for our NCS runners at the CSSA Zone Cross Country! Held at the picturesque Willandra track, the beautiful autumn weather set the perfect scene for an exciting day of competition. Schools from across the CSSA South Coast Zone gathered, and the level of talent on display was incredible.

Our students represented NCS with pride, delivering gutsy performances and showing remarkable resilience and determination. Many smashed their personal bests, and others achieved standout results, including several podium finishes:

12 Girls: Matilda – 3rd Place

15 Boys: Che – 3rd Place

17 Girls: Emily – 1st Place (Setting a new course record of 19:30.1), Tamsin – 2nd Place

18 Girls: Millie – 1st Place

Open Multiclass Boys - Noah K – 1st Place

We’re also grateful to our Year 9 and 10 students who assisted behind the scenes on the day - your help played a big part in making the event run smoothly!

With Zone now behind us, all eyes turn to the CSSA State Cross Country, coming up on Friday, 30th May. We wish our qualifying athletes all the best as they prepare for the next challenge!

NSWCIS Secondary Touch Football Championships

On Friday, 9 May, Maddy H from Year 9 proudly represented NCS and CSSA at the NSWCIS Secondary Touch Football Championships. Despite the cold and drizzly weather, it was a fantastic day of competition. The team recorded two wins, two losses, and one draw, facing some highly skilled opponents along the way.

Maddy shared that it was a fun and valuable experience, and she is very grateful for the opportunity to take part.

Congratulations, Maddy, on representing our school!

Spiked Expectations: A Smashing Finish!

Recently our Open Boys Volleyball team travelled to South Windsor for the CSSA State Volleyball Gala Day. Aiden S (Year 12), the self-proclaimed team captain provided this account of the day:

The drive to the stadium was mostly uneventful - though I did enjoy a solo game of Spotto to pass the time. Once we arrived, we quickly scoped out the competition and shook off the jitters with some light training.

We came out firing, comfortably winning our first match and staying undefeated in our pool right through to the semi-finals. In the semis, we faced Covenant Christian School, and it was an absolute nail-biter across all three sets. We bowed out to them in a hard-fought match, narrowly missing a spot in the final.

It was great to catch up with some old friends from Calderwood along the way, but there was also a tinge of sadness knowing this was our final CSSA State Volleyball Gala Day.

In the end, we finished equal 3rd - an impressive result that definitely exceeded our expectations!

A big thank you to Mr Lawrence for coaching us and to Mr Norsworthy for refereeing and driving the bus. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Metro Cup Football - Stage 3 - Kiama May 2025

Senior Boys Zone Soccer

The NCS Stage 3 football side contested the annual South Coast CSSA Metro Cup at Kiama on Wednesday 14 May in the Senior Primary Boys Division.

We were greeted with a beautiful day and the fields were in really good condition, thanks to the Kiama Football Club. We played four games against some of our South Coast Christian School neighbours.

In our first game against Cedars, we were met with tough competition and to our teams’ credit, we handled the onslaught well. Although we ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard, it was an excellent first hit out against what is typically one of the stronger sides. There were lots of good performances across the park. Ben in goals was great, with Liam, Joey and Zac doing a good job defending. Midfield were getting through a lot of work while up front things were a bit quiet. That was until Lu (or was it Wanzi?) made a very strong run which saw him get fouled quite badly in the penalty area. He brushed himself off and smashed the penalty away to get us back in the game, just a bit too little and a bit too late. Beaten but certainly not disgraced. Final score 2-1 to Cedars.

Next up was Cordeaux, and we started a bit slow, gifting them a couple of soft goals early on. Not deterred, we bounced back well with goals I think from Zac and Joey who both made the most of their chance to have a run up front rather than be the brick walls at the back. Final score ended up a 4-2 loss but we gave them a good run for their money.

Game 3 was against Calderwood who I think were the eventual winners. We looked tired and the opposition made us pay heavily. Great effort but many had their eyes on lunch rather than the ball. Final score 5-0 to Calderwood.

Lunch break came and went - many of us missed the BBQ but made do with chips, lollies and powerades.

Next up and last game of the day for us was against Southern Highlands Christian School (SHCS) who in the past have not been the strongest of opponents. This time round it was us who were fighting to stave off the wooden spoon. All in all it was a really good contest and could have gone either way. The score see-sawed 0-1, 1-1, 1-2, 2-2 with goals by Theo and Wanzi (or was it Lu) and then with not too long to go I think it was Sam who got on the end of a nice pass and cracked a very good shot to give us a 3-2 lead. Great result, but one I reckon we were a little fortunate to win.

That final 3-2 win saw us heave ourselves off the bottom of the table into 4th. Great effort.

Above all of these results, I was thrilled to see the attitude from every member of the team. No whinging, complaining, arguing, hassling. Everyone just got in there and did their best for the team and for themselves.

Attitude plus effort usually = rewards.

A couple of highlights and quotes from the day.

“One of my highlights was all the assists I had.” - Serjo

“Playing against Cedars! (which is code for - they loved the physical challenge)” - Joey & Zac

“Scoring a goal” - Joey and Zac

“Just being able to play” - Theo

“No comment” - Liam (man of few words)

The boys represented themselves, their families and the school really well.

Junior Boys Zone Soccer

The Year 3-4 boys had a strong start to the day with a dominating showing against Illawarra Christian School. the team moved the ball around the field and were able to finish powerfully. Shout out to our strikers, Arlo, AJ, Lachlan, Riley and Noah for all there hard work running up and back up the line and being available for each cross.

Our second game was against Southern Highlands Christian School. We got up again with out midfield doing work on keeping ball possession. Well done Darcy, Andrew, Tommy, Tyler and Hayden for always running and being all over the field for the team to pass it.

Our next game was against Cedars, who had been looking dominant all day. We started well but lost a bit of positioning and soon Cedars scored, leaving us a bit deflated. We started to come back in the second half, until near full time they got two more goals to put us at a loss. All feeling tired and frustrated by the loss we came together to pray and recoup before our last game.

Finally,  we were against Calderwood, who had a pretty good team. We started a little rocky but quickly found our game again and our defensive line were amazing. Max, Carson, and Michael were safe, and reliable. They worked incredibly hard over the four games. We ended up triumphant against Calderwood and 2nd place overall in the competition. Well done to all the boys who gave it their all and who played in a spirit of encouragement.

A big shout out and thanks to Mr Parker who did all the leg work in the lead up and all the organising before, during and after the event with his usual cheery optimism. All in a day’s work for him.

Huge thanks to all the parents behind the scenes who came and supported, encouraged, fed, watered, cared for, the team at various times during the day. And heckled the coaches;-)

Your support is much appreciated.
