PRIME MINISTER’S LITERARY AWARDS
On Thursday 16 November the winners of the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards were announced. In the category of young adult literature, the winner was The Greatest Thing by Sarah Winifred Searle.
The Greatest Thing is the story of Win whose two best (and only) friends have transferred to a private school. Win is feeling isolated and faces navigating high school alone. In art class Win meets Oscar and April, two offbeat, creative, and rebellious teens. The three become friends and bond through sleepovers, thrift store shopping, and zine publishing. Win struggles with anxiety but with the support and encouragement of Oscar and April, Win starts to believe she is not alone and explores the feelings of isolation and life’s challenges through artwork and storytelling. BOOK OF THE WEEK
The following book were recently featured in our Book of the Week display:
What would you do if everyone you love disappeared? What if it was your fault? One late summer day, everybody in July Fielding’s town disappears. She is left to piece together what transpired after noticing several cryptic signs in the town telling her to "GET THEM BACK." The story alternates between July's current situation and the events of the previous summer.
This week we revisit The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Of course, not a new book but the screen adaptation is now at the cinemas. This is the prequel book to The Hunger Games that centres on the events that occurred 64 years prior to the trilogy.
EAST CAMPUS
The bookshelves at East Campus now contain more than 1500 books. Students can grab a book or two and return them when they are finished.
Any students holding on to books they have finished with, please return them to the shelves for other students to read.
