The power of positive thinking

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” – Proverbs 16:24

It was a privilege to attend a session with Dr Cam McDonald on Wednesday. Cam was presenting to a group of primary school principals from across South Australia on wellbeing and positive education strategies. He is a really well-known expert in the field of wellbeing.

It was a great reminder that not only can positive thinking affect our hearts, but it can also change us physically and emotionally - in a good way! How we think can affects how we react to certain situations, whether they are bad or good. Only through practice can we create healthy positive thinking - it does not come automatically.

Reading God's Word can reassure our spirits and help us focus on positive outcomes. We need to speak in life-giving ways not only to ourselves but also to others because God teaches us to love one another. Ultimately, as believers, we know that this world will fade away and we will overcome through Christ. This knowledge should empower us to have a positive mindset every day.

The more we surround ourselves with positivity, the more positively we will think, act and respond to situations. God teaches us to speak encouraging words to others and ourselves because it helps reassure us that our place in the world matters. Speaking positivity can bring life to ourselves and others. By doing this we can recognise God’s truth and abide in Him, which brings our faith to life.
