National Water Week Poster Competition

Our students entered this year's competition which required them to draw or paint an A3 picture that centred around the theme of United By Water. Each of our students received a certificate of participation for their efforts.

We are thrilled to announce that we had one student who was awarded third place in their category. Congratulations Stevie! Stevie received a place-getter certificate and a bag of goodies.

Prep/One/Two News from Miss Duffy

Over the past two weeks we have been learning all about money as part of our Numeracy Studies. Students have been busy completing a range of activities that has seen them add coins,  count by 2, 5,10 and even 50 as well as work out multiple ways to make the same total. We have made a shop and have been having lots of fun totalling the cost of items as well as working out change.

Our lessons culminated in us organising an ice-cream parlour and inviting the senior kids in to "buy" and ice-cream. We had to work out the cost and give change!

Do you know the story of Icarus- the boy who flew too close to the sun? As part of our Integrated Studies unit we have been learning about stories from other countries. Last

week we studied the Greek Myth of Icarus and Daedalus and made our own waxed wings; (I am not too sure that the colours we used are true representations of what was in the myth, nor am I convinced our wings would help us fly- although Laxford did ask to give it a go!).

Year Three-Six News from Mr Collins

When we learn new skills in the 3-6 room, we like to celebrate it. This week the Year 3-6s had  follow specific guidelines by splitting a piece of paper into fractions and creating their very own flag. Then, in order to maintain democracy in our room, we had a blind vote as to which flag would best represent our class. It was close, a real nail biter. But in the end it was Kiara's design came out on top. Did we celebrate the learning? We paraded it!

Lefty-loosey, righty-tighty. With the weather warming up we decided to get our sprinklers going and came across a few minor problems. Luckily, I had some expert maintenance workers onsite to help me. They assured me that they didn't get 'that wet.'

Music News

Last week our students had the opportunity to showcase some of the work they had been doing in our ten-week Song Room Program with Darren Netto. Our students played instruments such as the glockenspiel and ukulele, sang and danced for the audience. A huge thank you to those family and community members who were able to come along and watch this mini-concert. Whilst I am quite sure the Sony music executives wont be knocking on our door anytime soon, the students gained so much enjoyment from their weekly sessions and having the chance to perform to an audience.

MARC  Library with Mrs Gentry

It is just SO wonderful to see the students enjoying books they have borrowed from the van. They are always excited to choose books and then share their choices with classmates.

This week we started illustrating our class story Bush Bees, inspired by the Nature Storybooks series. These will be finished in coming weeks and can be shared with people at home. Everyone is taking great care to thoughtfully illustrate their copy and consider the storyline on each page. Well done!

Art News

Ever feel as though you are being watched. Below are some Dragon's eye models we made a couple of lessons ago...

We have been very busy (and very messy) creating our plaster models. Students have sculpted imaginary bugs from wire and paper and then used plaster bandage to layer over the top. Once dry these weird and wonderful bugs were painted and ready for display.

We have also had a go at using the bandages over inflated rubber gloves to create an animal- we have giraffes, elephants and jellyfish that are part way to being completed.
