Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

PARENT/CARER EXPECTATIONS AT SCHOOL

REF: STATEMENT OF VALUES AND SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY

It’s an opportunity to re-iterate expectations of parents and carers with respect to their interaction at school.

As parents and carers, we will:

  • model positive behaviour to our child
  • communicate politely and respectfully with all members of the school community, in line with the Department’s Respectful Behaviours within the School Community Policy
  • ensure our child attends school on time, every day the school is open for instruction
  • take an interest in our child’s school and learning
  • work with the school to achieve the best outcomes for our child
  • communicate constructively with the school and use expected processes and protocols when raising concerns
  • support school staff to maintain a safe learning environment for all students
  • follow the school’s processes for communication with staff and making complaints
  • treat all school leaders, staff, students, and other members of the school community with respect

HATS

Our school is proudly a Sunsmart school. Once the UV level reaches 3 or above, hats must be worn when students and staff are outside. Hats must be a wide brimmed school hat which can be purchased from the school office for $5.

We ask that parents and carers please help reinforce the importance of sun safety and how wearing a hat at school is a part of this.

FOUNDATION/YEAR 6 BUDDY PROGRAM

On Wednesday Year 6C collaborated with our Foundation buddies for a day filled with both enjoyment and education. The students from Year 6 took the initiative to educate the Foundation students about ancient Rome and specifically discussed the various types of armour used in historical battles. During Term 3, the Year 6 students were involved in a project where they designed and constructed their own armour, receiving guidance from Ross, an exceptional sculptor. Subsequently, they had the opportunity to showcase their creations to their younger peers and engage in conversations about the fascinating world of ancient Rome. This event was a great opportunity to showcase knowledge-based learning in action.

FOUNDATION "READY SET GO" TRANSITION PROGRAM

Jacqui Matters and Julie Giblin are doing a great job preparing our 2024 Foundation students for school next year. The children are being introduced to our school, our teachers and are participating in some play activities, hearing stories and enjoying ‘big school.’ Our transition program is an integral part of assisting children in familiarising themselves with school so they are ready to embrace all opportunities and challenges that school will bring. We look forward to continuing this program over the coming 5 weeks.

WOOLSTHORPE EXCURSION – END OF YEAR CELEBRATION KOORIE YEARS 3-6

On Tuesday 21st November, Jess Arnott and Gina Mills will be accompanying Koorie students from Years 3-6 to Woolsthorpe Primary School for an end of year celebration to mark the graduation of their Year 6 peers. Students from other schools will also attend. We will depart at approximately 9.15am and return by approximately 2.30pm.

This day is planned by Steven Young, Koorie Engagement Support Officer. There is no cost, but students will need permission via Compass to attend this event.

MARNGROOK BALL

Last term our school was visited by a group of dignitaries on a tour of local schools. One of the visitors, Ms Bernadette Atkinson, a Koorie Education Co-ordinator from Glenroy, was very impressed with our school and promised to send us a present. Today it arrived in the mail.

She sent us a mangrook ball, that she personally made for us! Mangrook is a traditional Indigenous game like football, played with a stuffed ball made from possum skin. This photo shows Kiylahn and Cruz with the mangrook ball.

We would like to thank Bernadette for this precious item and we look forward to showing it to the students. If you would like more information on the history of the game, please have a look at this video https://www.abc.net.au/btn/classroom/marngrook-footy/10523118

GOVEMBER

What a great start to our fitness awareness Govember challenge. It’s amazing to see so many students and staff joining in and getting active. I have no doubt that as a collective we will be able to meet our challenges this term. This month is about getting outside, shaking off the winter blues and ditching the devices. We are keeping track of our kilometres travelled and expect to build during the middle part of the month. We will then bring it home strongly as we move towards December.

Our school is excited to launch this year's Monster Raffle. With over 50 prizes worth more than $5,000 you don't want to miss out.
