From the President

A message from the Kilvonian Alumni Committee President - Sarah Lim, Class of 2003 (L) with Sarah McSwiney, Class of 1999 (R)

Dear Kilvonians

This year was Kilvington’s Centenary year, and what a year it was!

Kilvington celebrated this special milestone with several events open to the wider Kilvington community including the Centenary Fair and Open Day, the church service at St Paul’s Cathedral, a Centenary Concert at Hamer Hall and the Great Gatsby themed Gala.

In addition to centenary celebrations, the Kilvonian Committee has put on a range of events and activities to continue to build community and create connections across generations of former Kilvington students and staff.

This has included reunions, the all-peer Kilvonian Konnections event, Walking Club and a Young Kilvonians Catch Up. My personal highlight was the Kilvonian ‘All Stars’ event in October which featured former staff Ann Cleghorn, Patsy Venn, Anne Dillon and Clare Jennings (nee Mackie) and current staff member, Rob Cavellin. The talented Clare acted as emcee and masterfully extracted the stories of Kilvington from all the teachers, leading to a night filled with much joy and laughter.

One of the joys of my role is connecting with Kilvonians, no matter what year they graduated. The Kilvington moto, Non Nobis Sed Omnibus - Not for our own, but others’ good, seems to be ingrained in our character, and I love observing how this comes out in your personalities and in your lives.

Over the 100 years, Kilvington has evolved and grown, but the one constant is the caring and community-centric culture that has somehow remained across the century. This is a testament to the entire Kilvington community, where each member has played a role to ensure the Kilvington culture has passed across multiple generations.

Before the year ends, I would like to say a final and heartfelt “Happy 100th Birthday Kilvington Grammar”. I hope you continue to thrive in the next century. Thank you to the Kilvington community for the role you play in ensuring this beautiful and precious culture that Kilvington holds, continues to transpire across the decades.

Welcome the Class of 2023 to the Kilvonian community. Congratulations on completing your final year of high school education. It is a gruelling year, but I hope it’s been a year of personal growth and has created the foundations of lifelong friendships and academic success.

Your final ATAR score is not the be all and end all. For those of you who know what you want to do, I hope you received the ATAR that allows you to pursue your dreams but if not, know that there are alternative ways to reach your goal.

For those who don’t know what career you want to pursue, enjoy learning different subjects and continue to do what you love or find interesting. New industries and roles continue to develop as society continues to evolve and the possibilities are exciting. We look forward to seeing you at some of our future events.

I want to thank the Kilvonian Committee for their contributions across the year to support each of our events. Committee members include Ann Cleghorn, Sarah McSwiney, George Crossingham, Rachel Cetrola, Peter Yu, Ellie Piestch, Charan Naidoo, Mitchell Cole and Lizzy Yeo. I also want to thank Principal, Rob French, Marketing Director, Camilla Fiorini, Community Relations Officer, Bianca Lapins and Digital Marketing and Communications Coordinator, Josh Rourke in supporting alumni initiatives and ensuring Kilvonians continue to play an important role in the Kilvington culture.

To the Kilvonian community, if you would like to join the committee to help grow and strengthen the bonds within the Kilvington community, please reach out for further information and to discuss how you can get involved.

Wishing you all a happy festive season and safe and happy 2024.

Sarah Lim, Class of 2003.
