Future XP: Empowering Year 10 Students Through Industry Experience

In Week 10, our Year 10 students took a bold step into the world beyond the classroom through an exciting new initiative called Future XP. Designed to give students a hands-on, engaging insight into real-world industries, this program offered a unique opportunity to explore future career pathways in a practical and inspiring way.

The Future XP program featured two dynamic, industry-based workshops tailored to spark curiosity and build confidence. Students were able to immerse themselves in environments that closely mirror the professional world, encouraging them to think critically about their interests, strengths, and future goals.

Each workshop was led by industry professionals who not only shared valuable knowledge and techniques, but also real stories from their own career journeys. This connection between classroom learning and the real world helped students understand how their studies can translate into meaningful careers.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Many students expressed how the experience broadened their perspectives and introduced them to fields they hadn’t previously considered. Teachers also praised the program for its ability to complement existing curriculum with practical learning.

Future XP represents a growing focus on preparing students for life beyond school—not just academically, but with real-world skills and insights. It follows on from the Subject Expo and the Careers Expo, which prepare students for their upcoming senior subject selection.

Here are some of the programs which were offered during FutureXP

Justice Journey – students participated in a Moot Court scenario where they each took the part of a key person in the court room. They learned to speak for their case and about what a career in the law or criminal justice system looks like.

Pitstop Workshop – students worked on actual cars to learn basic mechanics and build understanding of a career in Automotive or Engineering

Shake and Make – in this fast-paced hospitality workshop, students worked in teams to develop their own restaurant and were judged by the Principal – Mrs Susan Ogden and other key staff. Each team presented their own menu and table setting and worked together to build a number of really outstanding restaurants.

BrickSmart – Mixing ‘mud’, laying bricks and building a wall. Students who participated in the Brick and Block career workshop enjoyed creating something with their own hands and seeing it come together very quickly.

Step Into Health – students were able to learn about the variety of careers in the Health industry and practice some hands-on activities, including taking blood from a fake arm!
