Year 8 Girls Soccer - District Champions!

On Thursday 5th of June, we saw our Year 8 Girls soccer team venture out to play against various schools in the District. They showed all the signs of a fantastic team both as individuals and teammates.

The first and second match saw them share the goal spree of 17 goals without conceding a goal. Moving to the Grand Final, we knew this would be a tough game as they had some solid players throughout the day.

Haris R (Coach)  kept his cool as we had 7 missed shots at goal before Akuch A (Captain) kicked a smashing goal from way out. The game was not over and the team regrouped as the other team had shots on goal. With great communication and passages of play, we scored another two times and won 3-0. We are all looking forward to the next round where “WE WILL DARE TO DREAM”!!

Year 7 Girls Netball

Everyone had so much fun at our Netball Interschool Sports Tournament, and we all made new friends along the way. Some teams were really challenging to play against, but our school Netball A team pulled through and won it for all of us.

Our best game was against Mt Hira where we defeated them with a score of 12-0, but we unfortunately lost one game to KC Banksia. We had 7 games in total and we only lost 1. Everyone was so supportive, and we were all cheering for each other if one of us got a shot in or if one of us got an intercept in. We even came up with a chant: 'We can do it, we're the best! 1, 2, 3, DHS!'

We won the tournament and we are now going to play at Regionals in early August. We couldn’t have done it without our amazing coaches Mrs Fernando, Awar and Madani.

Cross Country Report: GREATER DANDENONG DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS

In late Term 1, we completed our House Cross Country competition during PE classes. From these results we were able to select the Dandenong HS team to compete in the Greater Dandenong District Cross Country Championships which were held on Wednesday 21 May at Tatterson Park in Keysborough.

With weekly morning training runs lead up to the GDD X-C event and meetings to prepare the team, we were primed and ready to go. Perfect weather, a flat fast course and eager runners were ready to take on the competition and create a XC culture for future Dandenong HS runners.

Our day started in excellent fashion with medal winning performances from Hussain A(D10) winning the 17-20 Boys race and Chajen W and Matiullah K placing 2nd & 3rd in the 16 Boys event, highlighting some outstanding individual performances. The biggest highlight however was the 14 Boys race where DHS absolutely dominated the race finishing 1st (Dawoud I C08), 2nd (Ali Sina N H08), 5th Mustapha A F08), 11th (Garghari P G08) & 12th (Abdullah M H08) to win the age group convincingly.

The Dandenong HS runners that finished in the top 15 of their age group races, qualifying for Southern Metro Region Championships were;

The Southern Metro Region championships on Wednesday June 25 were a stark contrast to the GDD races. Ballam Park in Frankston greeted us with rain, hail, high winds and a very wet and hilly course. Despite these challenges, we were well prepared with Mt Duggan ensuring our runners were well prepared (being told to bring warm and dry clothing to change into after races) and well supported with our marquee shelter, food and drinks for post-race recovery.

At a regional level the competition obviously takes a step up and the quality of the fields was evident early on.

Our day started well again with Hussain A D10 finishing 8th in the  17-20 Boys race and qualifying for the State Finals in July.

Unfortunately no other Dandenong HS runners were able to finish in the top 12 to qualify for State Finals but each runner gave everything they had in very trying conditions and did the school proud with valiant efforts in brutal conditions.

They are all to be commended for their efforts on the competition days and for commitment to the morning training sessions as well as the team culture that has obviously grown among them all. Watching all runners cheer each other on during races is great to see and bodes well for the future of XC at Dandenong HS.

Lets make sure 2026 is another successful year for the Dandenong HS Cross Country team and let's all get behind Hussain when he represents Dandenong in the State Finals early in Term 3.

Well Done team 🙂
