What's going on in

Health/PE?

Amazing Race

As part of our Mental Health unit for Year 9s this term, we completed an Amazing Race over a two-week period. It was designed to promote communication, wellbeing and respect between staff and students.

We introduced ourselves and asked staff two simple questions, i.e. How's your day so far? Anything planned for the weekend? Do you have a Favourite food? etc. At the end, they paid a compliment, i.e. You are a great leader/teacher! I love your sense of humour. I love your outfit, etc. The staff member then signed off that they had spoken with the students.

A point system was also in place. Hakea staff 2 points, HLT and other staff 3 points, SSOs and LIOs 4 points and Principal Class 5 points. Mrs Ogden was worth 10 points! Some staff held a Golden Ticket which doubled our points. We then were asked to give feedback.

Here are some of the responses:

“I got to know different staff and they were nice and liked to listen.” - Roniya
“I liked giving compliments, their faces lit up and it made me smile.” - Noor
“Mostly I liked that lots of our staff are cool and funny. All groups should do the Race.” - Tiam
“I liked that we got to speak with different staff and the prize for the winners motivated me." - Mobin
“The whole class was involved making it really fun and competitive" - Arif

Congratulations to Omar P, Justin D and Arif M on winning the Race!

Melbourne Victory School of Football

Since I joined Melbourne Victory, I have seen myself coming to school earlier and I have seen my sportsmanship and respect improving. When things happen on the pitch, I have learned to not take it as a bad thing, but to learn from my mistakes and reflect on my mistakes to not make them again so I can improve on them. I am looking forward to the Melbourne Victory Cup so I can implement the things I’ve learned, as well as teach the younger kids on Grade 6 day.

Futsal next term will also be fun so I can go for an interschool day so I can play with my teammates and have fun.

So far in Melbourne Victory, we have not only played soccer, but we have learnt skills such as respect, sportsmanship and the value of teamwork. Our coach Sean and Mrs Hayes help guide us to improve outside of soccer, they drive us to be punctual, improve our behaviour and show respect. The program teaches us discipline whilst also being very fun. We do things like interschool games and fun activities. In the future, we have events like the Melbourne Victory Cup and Grade 6 days, where we learn leadership skills and improve our soccer skills. As someone a part of the program, I have noticed the program pushing me to improve both in soccer and schoolwork. The high level of coaches supplied by the program teaches us important skills to a high standard and gives us an opportunity to get better at soccer.

This term, I have achieved a lot of skills in the Melbourne Victory program, and I learned how to play soccer with a team and win a game with my teammates. I made new friends and learned how to work better with others in a soccer match. One of my biggest achievements was attending the class and not being late. I also tried to be more organised and remembered to bring all my things to school every day. This term taught me that trying my best really helps me improve. I’m excited to keep learning and doing even better next term with all my friends. In the future, I am looking forward to learning new skills and winning a cup for my school, and winning the Melbourne Victory Cup. I will attend the classes every time and I will be good at soccer. I will get higher marks in the subjects, and I want to achieve many skills in soccer like communication and dribbling. I will achieve these goals in the next term.

So far in Melbourne Victory since I've done my knee, I've been refereeing all the games, and I've become better at it by being direct. I have improved my attendance by coming to most of the classes this term. Since I have joined the Melbourne Victory program, I have been wanting to come to school more because it's fun and we get to play with all our friends and show sportsmanship to each other and communicate well, showing respect to everyone in the program and listening to the coach when he tells us instructions.
