Music News

We’ve got another fantastic term planned in the music room for the remainder of this first semester. We’re continuing our instrumental and vocal studies, and all our students will be beginning their concert preparations in Week 8 (See more information about our concert below).

The Year 5 and 6 students will continue their guitar studies and complete a portfolio task around Week 4 and will have the option of playing a more advanced bonus piece. They will also begin using GarageBand to explore different styles and genres of music and further advance their ability to use the GarageBand application.

The Year 3 and 4 students will be continuing their ukulele studies and will complete a ukulele portfolio task around the same time as the Year 5 and 6 students. They will then complete some structured GarageBand projects before beginning their concert choreography sessions.

The Year 1 and 2 students will continue using the piano keyboards and complete their portfolio tasks early in the term and our Foundation students will be further developing their instrumental skills and knowledge of beat and rhythm before undertaking their portfolio assessments. Our Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 students will then begin experimenting with tuned percussion instruments (xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiels) to further develop their musical knowledge and skills.

The Senior and Junior Choirs have been regularly rehearsing and look forward to performing at assemblies to share their love of music with an audience. The Senior Choir will be performing at our school’s Open Night in front of what we’re hoping will be a packed-out audience in the Wentworth Building.

Concert Update

If you haven’t already seen the flyers around the school, our whole school concert titled ‘It’s Scientrific!’ will be held over 2 nights:

Performance 1 – Green Show: Monday, 8 September, 7:00pm

Performance 2 – Purple Show: Tuesday, 9 September, 7:00pm

The performances will be held next door at the Rowville Performing Arts Centre, and we have divided our students into two separate performance groups to ensure there are enough tickets available for families. Students and families will be notified of which night students will be performing later this term or early in Term 3.

Our chief choreographer, Miss Amber, along with her assistant choreographer, from the Kim Annette Dance Academy, will be beginning sessions with each year level in Week 8 of this term. These sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and will also be rehearsed as part of their Music and Performing Arts classes during the week. These sessions will continue weekly in the lead up to the performances, which are in Week 8 of Term 3.

We are in the process of ordering t-shirts for our students, which they will decorate during their Visual Art lessons and will be part of their concert costumes.

Tickets will be on sale early next Term.

Stay tuned for more concert updates on Compass, in newsletters, notices home and at assemblies. We are super-excited to be holding our second recent whole school concert production here at Park Ridge.

Thanks,
