Year Two Team News

with Steph, Joel and Rochelle

Hello Year Two families,

Welcome back to what will no doubt be another busy and enjoyable term. We hope that you all had a wonderful break and have settled back into the school routine. It has been great to see our students refreshed and excited about what this term has to offer. As is always the case in Term Two, assessment will be taking place over the next few weeks of term in preparation for your child’s mid-year report.

At the beginning of Term Two, it is a wonderful opportunity to reset our routines and expectations. One of the ways we are doing this is by encouraging our Year Twos to take a proactive approach to their learning. This involves being organised and planning for the day ahead, helping others and finding solutions to problems that they have encountered (or may encounter) in the classroom and yard.

 Important news for Term Two:

  • Science Incursion in Week 4: We are pleased to announce that we will be having a science incursion run by the company ‘Hands on Science’ on Thursday 15th May. The incursion will support us in our inquiry unit ‘What Are Things Made of and Why?’ Each Grade Two class will attend a 90 minute session, as outlined below. Please look out for more information appearing soon on Compass.
  • Term 2 Oral Presentations: Last term, we were blown away by the quality of oral presentations that our students produced about their special places in Williamstown. This term, our oral presentation will be about someone special to them. More information relating to this will be sent home in your child’s blue book bag later this term.
  • Positive Minds Lessons: During the first few weeks of term, our Year Two students will be attending a series of Positive Minds sessions with Anna Swan (Wellbeing, Disability & Inclusion Coordinator and Teacher) in our Wellbeing classroom. Students have begun attending the lessons to enhance wellbeing, resilience, build confidence and emotional Intelligence.

The four lessons: Inner Guru, True Colours, Making Friends, and Friendship Fires or Mean on Purpose, have enabled students to think positively and speak to themselves in a positive way, learn how to tame strong emotions, learn how to make friends and have different types of friends, and use role play situations to help navigate friendships and challenging situations.

Curriculum Focus: Weeks 3 - 4

Literacy: In Writing, we will be writing a booklet about our beloved mothers and learning about and writing our own procedural texts.

Numeracy:  We will be working on Time, with a particular focus on telling quarter to and quarter past times on an analogue clock.

Inquiry: We will be looking at and discussing what materials a range of different objects are made of and why they are made the way they are.

Willy Kids: Through the pillar of Learning, we will be learning about what it looks like to be a curious student who wonders. We will also learn more about something that really makes us think in an inquisitive way.

Special Reminders:

Blue Book Bags: Just a friendly reminder that in order to help us with our reading program, it is imperative that students continue to bring their blue book bag to school each day. It has been pleasing to see this being done by our Willy Kids consistently in Term One and we ask that this continues just as strongly in Term Two.

Change to the specialist timetable: There have been some changes to the specialist timetable for this term, please see the specialist days for each class below.
