Year 5/6 - Newsletter

Year 5/6 Parent Newsletter Week 4 - Term 2
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are now well into Term 2 and the Year 5/6 students have been thriving with a variety of exciting learning experiences across all areas of the curriculum. Here's a snapshot of what's been happening in our classrooms:
🌏 English Students have been busy using their Multiple Paragraph Outline planners to organise ideas for their factual recount on the 1967 Referendum. This work links closely with our current book study of Us Mob Walawarru, which provides historical context and emotional insight into this significant event in Australian history. It's been fantastic to see students making connections between the text and their research.
➗ Maths Maths Day was a huge success! It was wonderful to see students get into the spirit with such creative costumes for the Maths Parade. Throughout the day, students teamed up with their Prep and Year 1 buddies to participate in a range of fun and interactive maths activities. The enthusiasm and cooperation on display were a testament to the strong sense of community in our school.
🧭 Inquiry In Inquiry, students have been deepening their understanding of settlement and governance by running their own colonies using large-scale maps displayed in each classroom. This immersive experience has sparked thoughtful conversations around trade, leadership, alliances, and decision-making. It’s been fantastic to see the students take ownership of their roles and engage so actively in their learning.
🏉 Inter School Sport (I.S.S.) Congratulations to all teams on a great start in Round 1 against Montmorency South Primary! Please note that there will be no I.S.S. in Week 4 due to district cross country events. We’ll be back in action for Round 2 in Week 5, hosting Holy Trinity. Although it’s a home round, many teams will still be playing off-site:
- AFL9s – Research Park
- Soccer – Eltham Redbacks pitch
- Hot Shots Tennis – Karingal Tennis Courts
Thank you for your ongoing support in ensuring students are well prepared and on time for their sports commitments.
- Please make sure if your child is in soccer that they remember to bring their shin guards!
- Please also ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for sport on the day, including shorts and shoes.
- For the year 5 students who have been put on the list to be a fill in , it’s a good idea to bring their gear in case they get called. Otherwise they parents will be called to bring their gear.
- Lunch orders on Fridays: the chances are very high that lunch orders may not be delivered before year 6 go on the bus for away games. Please be aware of this if you are ordering from classroom cuisine on Fridays .
As always, we appreciate your continued support in your child's education. If you have any questions or would like to get involved in any upcoming events, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.
Warm regards, The Year 5/6 Teaching Team Eltham North Primary School
