Sustainability

We are seeking your help with collecting natural play items like leaves, flowers, bark, pods and seeds for students to play with in our Imagination Garden. If you can collect from your garden or nearby parks, and leave them in the office in the provided box. The children would greatly appreciate this.

Huge thanks from Ms Michelle (Crazy Garden Lady!)

Here at St Mary's, we now have a Staff Sustainability Hub in the staffroom where we are collecting different things within the school that can be recycled into something else. We have started collecting used batteries and stationery items and are looking to expand that into other items as we go.

RECYCLING BATTERIES

Did you know batteries should never be put in the bin or the recycling bin? Not only are they a huge fire hazard that can cause garbage trucks to catch on fire, but they can also leak harmful chemicals into landfills, affecting our soil and waterways.

Please recycle them, and remember when recycling to tape your charging terminals so they don't spark. Check this website for more information and where you can recycle your batteries. https://recyclingnearyou.com.au/batteries/

RECYCLING ART SUPPLIES

We have started collecting stationery and art supplies to recycle to give them another life by bringing them back to Officeworks. The DON'T BIN IT. BRING IT BACK programme at each store allows us all to recycle any unwanted stationery/art supplies as listed below.

Art Supplies

Calculators

Crayons & Oil Pastels

Erasers, Liquid Paper & Correction Tape

Exercise & Scrap Books

Glue Sticks

Maths Equipment

Paint Brushes

Paper Clips & Bulldog Clips

Pencil Cases

Pencils, Pens & Markers

Rulers

Sharpeners, Staplers & Hole Punches

A4 & Mini Whiteboards

Please take some time to learn more here and see how you can also make a difference to the environment.

DID YOU KNOW THAT FINISHED GLUE STICKS CAN BE RECYCLED??

Simply attach the lid and put it in the recycling bin. These can be recycled into new glue sticks. Check with your council.
