Student Safety Survey Results – St Justin’s School

The recent Student Safety Survey results present a positive picture of student wellbeing, safety, and relationships within our school community.

An impressive 95.6% of students report feeling safe in their classrooms, and 81% feel safe on the playground, showing that most students experience St Justin’s as a secure and supportive environment. Similarly, 82.3% feel safe walking to and from school, although a smaller 62.7% feel safe in the toilets — an area the school will continue to monitor and improve.

When asked about fairness and equality, 48.1% of students believe teachers always treat everyone fairly regardless of gender, with another 37.3% saying this happens sometimes. These results show that while many students perceive strong fairness and inclusivity, there are opportunities to continue strengthening equity across all classrooms.

A strong sense of belonging and support is also evident. 59.2% of students feel that teachers and staff genuinely care about them, while another 38.2% say they “kind of” feel cared for. Importantly, 81.6% of students know who to turn to when something is wrong — most often their teacher (88.3%), friend (83.1%), or principal/vice principal (63%) — reflecting the strong and caring relationships within our school.

In terms of emotional wellbeing, 44.3% of students arrive at school feeling happy and excited, and 53.8% feel okay, meaning the majority begin their day in a positive frame of mind. Overall, 86.7% of students report feeling safe most or all of the time during the school day — reinforcing that safety and comfort are key strengths at St Justin’s.

In response to these results, the SLC / Safety Team created new safety posters that will be displayed around the school to further promote safety and awareness. The team will also present the survey findings at an upcoming school assembly.

Overall, these findings affirm that St Justin’s is a safe, caring, and inclusive place for all students, while also providing valuable insights into areas for continued growth and improvement.
