Modelling an Orbit
The Year 7 Science students were required to construct an interactive model to determine whether the orbital period of a satellite is affected by the mass of the planet it orbits, and therefore by the strength of its gravitational pull. It was so much fun and a great way to reinforce what we had been learning in class.

Fly Me to the Moon
As part the Earth, Moon and Space Unit, our Year 7 Science students were delighted to create their own ‘acid and base’ rockets! The girls mixed baking soda with vinegar in a plastic drink bottle 'rocket' to create carbon dioxide gas, which when released, caused the rocket to spectacularly overcome the pull of gravity and head straight for the stars! The excitement was something we will always treasure!

Day and Night
Working with balloons always guarantees an awesome lesson. The Year 7 Science students thought it was already Christmas when asked to use a globe to check the shape and position of the major continents and to next try drawing them onto the balloon. The balloon was then hung by a string in front of the bright lamp representing the sun and slowly turned anticlockwise to model day and night in Australia and the rest of the world. Of course, we made time to play with the balloons afterwards!

Let’s ROCK!
Igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks were displayed in the laboratory for the Year 8 Science students to choose one rock that they could use to create a fun photo to bring joy to the class. Our future geologists absolutely adored working with rocks this term and learning about the structure of the Earth.

Caring for Country
The Year 9 Science students worked diligently on a group task to prepare a video documentary on Preventative Bushfire Management, combining Indigenous knowledge with non-Indigenous practices for sustainable fire management. We can't thank the girls enough for their commitment, reverence, and passion for Caring for Country.
