Year that has been nothing short of extraordinary
As we close an extraordinary year at Loreto College, Marryatville, it is clear that 2025 has been anything but ordinary. We have stood at the intersection of history and possibility, celebrating 150 years of Loreto education in Australia and Southeast Asia, and marking 120 years of Loreto Marryatville. These milestones speak to a legacy shaped by courage and forward momentum, and they continue to propel us into the future with purpose.
This sense of continuity and ambition was highlighted through Mother Gonzaga Barry’s induction into the Victorian Honour Roll, a timely acknowledgement of the woman whose bold decision, encouraged by St Mary MacKillop, led to the foundation of our College in 1905. Their shared vision still guides us today.
Across 2025, our community has lived that legacy in real and tangible ways. We launched our strategic vision, Strong, Confident Futures, cementing our commitment to place students at the centre of every decision. We welcomed cyber-safety expert Yasmin London as the first presentation of its kind in South Australia, strengthened pathways for young women through our partnership with the Adelaide Thunderbirds, and delivered standout community events including the Acacias Ball and the 42nd Contemporary springART Exhibition.
Our students pushed themselves with conviction, earning national medals in aerobics, securing major victories in soccer and netball, finishing top ten in our first VEX Robotics competition, and achieving excellence in the da Vinci Decathlon, National History Awards, Ethics Olympiad and more. These achievements reflect not just talent, but discipline, creativity, and a mindset geared toward growth.
We also acknowledge with gratitude the service of Hannah Sexton, who concludes six years as President of the Loreto Old Scholars’ Association. Her leadership has strengthened the bridge between generations of Loreto women.
To our families, thank you. Your support, trust and partnership sit behind every achievement we celebrate. Our students thrive because we work together, and that unity remains one of our greatest strengths.
As the year closes, I wish each member of our community a happy and holy Christmas. May the summer break bring rest, joy and cherished time spent with family.
With 120 years behind us and a bold future ahead, 2026 promises to be exceptional, because we will shape it together.
