Out and about at Surfside
Mr Walsh (Principal) & Mrs Patterson (Assistant Principal)
As we head into the final 4 weeks of the school year we have plenty happening in and out of the classroom. Please keep track of our Dates for your Diary page as the end of the year will be here before you know it.
The end of the school year has a keen focus on teaching and learning with a sprinkle of fun and engaging activities and plenty of celebrations. We are aware that weekends are also busy for families with Christmas parties, family gatherings, special activities, sporting commitments, etc. We are also looking forward to our upcoming school concert (and fingers crossed for some dry weather). During this time it is important that we try to keep as much routine with our kids (and us adults), as possible, while enjoying this festive time of the year and of course getting plenty of sleep.
We have our concert next week and there has been a mountain of planning behind the scenes from Mr. Morzinek, Mr Asher and Ange. A big thank you to the crew who have been working on the props and set design and especially the Inoue family. Our acting crew did a dress rehearsal of their scen.

The team at Surfside work really hard to support transition processes at our school from kinder to Foundation, year 6 to year 7 and through year levels. We have enjoyed meeting our 2026 Foundation students through an extended transition program and we look forward to beginning our school wide transition sessions across the school over the coming weeks to prepare our students and classes in preparation for the 2026 school year. The following transition sessions will happen during weeks 9 and 10:
These sessions aim to assist our students in meeting our teaching team for 2026 (where possible) and providing our students a positive transition experience. Not all staff will be available to attend on these days but we will work toward them having a familiar face during those sessions.
Transition can be a challenging time for young people and adults, especially as fatigue settles in towards the end of the year as well as the unkown ahead of them.
Please check our wellbeing page for supports to assist you and your child with a positive transition experience.
We are excited about our teams for 2026 and we all look forward to working toward our school goals and supporting our students to maximise their learning and engagement opportunities. We are still completing our recruitment process and will communicate with families once year levels are confirmed at the end of next week.
After a terrible week of weather we were smothered in sunshine for the F-2 Sports Morning. It wasn't the 30 degree days of years past but it was definitely better than what we have been facing. The students engaged in a range of different activities such as the egg and spoon race, shot put, long jump, the sprint and some modified activities to promote engagement and fun. It was great to see the students displaying their house colours and our parents/carers and visitors cheering them on - even with some pom poms! A big thank you to Mr Baker and Mr Asher for their continued support of our PE program and preparing the students for the day.

A MASSIVE thank you to Sabrina Lunn Photography for the awesome snaps during our recent Fresh Food Fair. She always does a great job of capturing the spirit of the evening. Take a look through the gallery below and re-live the wonderful moments of the 2025 Surfside PS Fresh Food Fair.

A collection of year 6's have been involved in the Rotary Awards for 2025. The Rotary Junior Community Award has been taking place since 1997 as a program providing an opportunity for year 6 students to involve themselves in developing and using their skills and abilities to benefit both themselves and the local community. The Rotary Club of Ocean Grove program introduced the program in 1999.
The program operates with a team of four or five Rotarians regularly visiting the four schools commencing in early Term 1. Following their interviews, the students receive their Junior Community Award Diaries and are ready to commence the program.
The activities the students are to complete consist of 10 hours each of Community Service, Physical Recreation, and Skills Development - a total of 30 hours recorded in their student Diaries, and six Social Experiences. The Social Experiences are - Community Commemoration, Community Meeting, Cultural Experience, Religious/Spiritual Experience, The Arts and Environment. These six experiences all require active participation and a variety of reporting formats.
During Terms 2 and 3 members of the team visit the schools twice a term to meet with the students individually. During these visits general progress is monitored, the recording of activities and also reporting formats are checked to make sure requirements for tasks are being met, queries are answered and suggestions discussed. In later Term 3 activities should be nearing completion ready to submit for collection and assessment by the Rotary Team at the end of week 1, Term 4.
During Term 4 the students who have successfully met the requirements of the program are presented with certificates by a Rotarian at presentation events organised at each school. At the end of the program 2 representatives from each school are invited to give a short presentation about an aspect of their award activities at the Rotary Club’s Annual Graham Bath Junior Community Awards Presentation Night. A big congratulations to all Surfside students who completed the award in 2025 and a big thank you to the Rotarians for their support, family members for supporting participation and the teachers, especially Mrs Wolfe for her coordination and support of the students.

We are very lucky at Surfside to see plenty of success and achievement within the school. However, we are aware that our students have many talents that they have the opportunity to showcase outside of the school. We want to celebrate and are proud of Tillie and Ella who recently participated in the Cheer Championships and Ruby and Harriette hitting the pavement for Run Geelong. Keep up the great work!

A big thank you to Luke and the crew at GSC Finance for their support at the Fresh Food Fair and behind the bar. 'GSC Finance would like to continue to support Surfside PS and as supporters of Surfside Primary and the Fresh Food Fair, they are donating $1,000 for any settled loans referred through the school community.'So check out the crew at GSC Finance and we thank them for their continued support.
