Jump Rope for Heart - WE DID IT! We Achieved Our Goal!

 

On our deadline day - 21st November - we officially reached our fundraising goal of $7,000 for the Heart Foundation!

It has been an absolutely incredible few weeks of skipping for all our students from Prep to Year 6. Everyone has had a blast improving their skipping skills, learning advanced tricks, teaching their friends new moves and fundraising along the way.

We are so grateful to our families for their generosity and support in helping us reach this amazing target. It’s a wonderful feeling to know that, as a school community, we have contributed to helping others in need and supporting the important work of the Heart Foundation.

There is still time to add donations; however, the cutoff for prize eligibility is today. Prizes will be sent to our school in the coming week or so, and we will do our best to get them to students as soon as possible. 😊

As our Year 6 students prepare to graduate from Caulfield Primary School, they’ve taken part in one of our much-loved traditions—the Legacy Project! This year, Year 6 students chose to transform the cupboard near the art room into a dazzling mural. Inspired by Vivien and Jyun’s imaginative concept, artist Kate Gorringe-Smith brought the final design together: a spectacular display of fireworks above Melbourne’s iconic buildings.

Year 6 students added their own fireworks to the mural. Even though they all learned the same painting technique, each firework turned out wonderfully different, creative, and uniquely theirs—just like the students themselves!

As our Year 6 cohort moves on to new adventures in secondary school, I hope they carry the same spark of originality and creativity wherever they go.

Congratulations, Year 6—and thank you for the amazing legacy you’ve left behind!

Zoo Victoria Schools Showcase

 

Our Year 3/4 students proudly represented Caulfield Primary School at the 2025 Zoo Victoria Schools Showcase! Throughout Term 1, students visited Melbourne Zoo, observed animal behaviours, and worked in teams during STEM to design and build their own enrichment prototypes to support animal wellbeing. Ten students were invited to share their learning journey at the showcase, presenting their research, prototypes, and creative ideas alongside schools from across Victoria. We are incredibly proud of their hard work, confidence, and passion for helping wildlife. Congratulations to all students involved!

Prep – Exploring Algorithms

 

Prep students have been learning how robots follow algorithms – clear, ordered steps that must be followed exactly. Over the past few weeks, students explored how Bee-Bots move on a grid and discovered that every button press becomes part of a sequence. They worked in small groups to plan and test their own paths, including tracing numbers and simple shapes on our taped floor grids. Students also learned to record their steps before pressing Go, helping them match a written algorithm to the Bee-Bot’s movement. Recently, they have been practising how to follow given algorithms on paper, tracing the path from a starting point to find out where the Bee-Bot would finish. These activities are helping students build strong early computational thinking skills, including spatial awareness, sequencing and problem-solving.

Year 1/2 – Building Our Digital Arcade Game Books

 

In STEM this term, Year 1/2 students have been exploring how to use Google Docs on iPads to help publish their arcade game projects. They have learned how to select and edit text, change fonts and colours, and use basic word-processing tools to make their writing clear. Students also practised taking photos with the iPad camera and inserting them into a document. As part of learning to work safely online, each group created their own “online collaboration rules” to guide how they behave when typing together in a shared document. Classes then worked in groups to complete their arcade game design drawings, list the materials they need, and begin typing the instructions for how their game is made. Students are now confidently combining photos, text, and teamwork to build their own digital procedure books.

 

Year 3/4 Digital Technologies – Micro:bit Coding

 

This term, Year 3/4 students have continued developing their programming skills using the Micro:bit through a series of hands-on coding challenges. Students explored how digital systems make decisions by creating a nightlight program that turns on in the dark and switches off when it is bright. They then built on this by adding a flashing pattern using a count-controlled loop and comparing how different types of loops control repetition in a program. Students also demonstrated their understanding of sequencing, loops and branching in a written assessment where they interpreted and explained block-based algorithms. To finish, they applied all of their skills in a creative project—designing their own “Dance Step Counter” that uses the accelerometer, variables and iteration to track movement like a real fitness device. The growth in their confidence and computational thinking has been fantastic to see.

 

Year 5/6 – Website Design Project

 

This term in STEM, Year 5/6 students have been learning how to design and build their own websites using Google Sites through a project called “Student Life Hub.” They explored what makes a good website, planned a clear homepage layout, and created connected pages using menus, buttons and navigation tools. Students also learned about choosing appropriate content for a specific audience and purpose, and followed important online safety expectations such as using copyright-free images and avoiding student names or faces. They are now finishing their websites by adding content, checking links and polishing their design, developing valuable skills in digital communication, layout design and responsible online publishing.
