Grade 5

Our Grade 5 students have had a fantastic few weeks of learning, filled with rich discussions, creative thinking and lots of festive fun!

Reading

In Reading, students have been diving into the novel Convict Boy. They’ve been exploring the story of a young boy transported to Australia and the challenges he faces as a convict in the early colonies. The class has been discussing themes of resilience, hardship and hope, while building their comprehension skills through questioning and prediction.

Writing

In Writing, students are currently working on their information reports. They are in the planning phase, carefully gathering facts and organising their ideas. This week, the focus has been on drafting strong body paragraphs, using clear topic sentences and supporting details to inform the reader.

Humanities – Civics & Citizenship

Our Humanities unit has centred around developing positive money habits. Students are learning about making informed financial decisions, the difference between needs and wants, and how saving and spending choices impact their future. Lots of great discussions are happening about setting goals and being responsible with money.

Christmas Concert Practice

And of course—Christmas spirit is in full swing! Grade 5s have been dancing their little hearts out during concert rehearsals. They’re working hard to perfect their moves to some favourite Christmas songs, and we can’t wait for families to see their joyful performance.
