Grade 4

It’s been a really positive few weeks in Grade 4, with the kids getting into great discussions and trying out new ideas.

Reading

In Reading, students have been enjoying the novel His Name is Walter. They’ve been following Walter’s story, exploring his experiences and challenges, and discussing themes such as resilience, friendship, and problem-solving. The class has been building their comprehension skills through questioning, making predictions, and reflecting on the characters’ choices.

Writing

In Writing, students are currently working on their narratives. They have planned and written the orientation, an action paragraph, and the problem, using our novel as inspiration. They have been thinking carefully about their characters, settings, and events, and how to make their stories interesting for the reader. The class has been exploring different ways to include dialogue and description to bring their ideas to life, and they are beginning to experiment with pacing and tension to make the action more engaging.

Maths

In Maths, students have finished our unit on probability. They have explored multiplication and division in depth, using manipulatives to develop a solid understanding of short division. We also used bar models to break down and solve word problems, helping students visualise the steps and think strategically about each problem.

Christmas Concert Practice

The holiday excitement is definitely here! Grade 4 students have been full of energy in rehearsals, learning new steps and having fun with their favourite Christmas tunes. Their enthusiasm and hard work are shining through, and it’s going to be wonderful for families to see them bring the music and stories to life on stage.
