Grade 3

Reading
This week in Reading, students have continued exploring Charlotte’s Web and using a range of comprehension strategies to deepen their understanding of the story. They have been revising the 5 W’s to recall key events, identifying the author’s purpose, and making inferences using text clues and their own prior knowledge. During our pause-point discussions, students have been thinking about how characters feel, why certain events happen, and what messages the author wants us to notice. To support their understanding of Charlotte as a character, students have also been reading nonfiction texts about spiders, learning key facts about webs, spider features, and different species, and discussing how this knowledge helps them better understand the events in the novel.
Maths
In maths, Grade 3 students have enjoyed conducting chance experiments with their peers and learning about what makes an outcome impossible, unlikely, an even chance, likely or certain. We have began our final unit of the year, estimating, measuring and ordering the mass of some classroom objects and the capacity of others.
