Visual Arts

Term 1 - Week 4

PORTRAITS - All St. John's students are learning about Portraits.

Our Year 5 and 6 students are looking at the work of Chuck Close, who is a fascinating artist who paints portraits using grids. We watched a video of how he constructs his portraits, which we found very interesting! Using a 'square-by-square' method, the students are drawing their own portrait. I look forward to showing you the results.

The Year 3/4 students are creating 'Folk' portraits in the style of Heather Gellar. Her work is bright and interesting and the students have done a great job. They have also tried 'Continuous Line Portraits' which were tricky but fun.

The Year 1 and 2 students created their Picasso portrait and are now working on their Frida Khalo portrait. We look forward to showing you these soon.

The Foundation students are working on colours and learning about the colour wheel.

Have a great week!
